I have a question... I don't bench show but just wondering something because I noticed that people were asking about who was going to be the BSJ at WV State hunt also...

Does most people determine their attendance based on who the BSJ is?

Just curious.. I use to judge horseshows and I know people would want to know who was the judge so they could either 1) not attend or 2) Call them and politic their horse..

My personal reason for wanting to know who judges are is because sometimes it might be a conflict of interest to show under a certain person. For example if a certain association refuses to tell you who the judge is and then you bring a dog along and find out that the person judging is the breeder of your dog it would be unethical to show under that person and if you brought nothing else to show basically wasted a trip.

It is nice to know because of conflict of interest. When UKC published the article several months ago, it discussed this exact matter and in regards to ETHICS.

Another, sadly we have some judges that just select faces and don't select dogs that best meet what the breed standards are asking for. With the economy the way it is, a lot of us watch our every dollar, therefore very selective in who we enter under!

dont worry about the judge.. just show up and show if you think your dog is good enough.. judges will all be fair and know the standards.. so if you dont go to have a good time and see your friends and be greatful of the wins you get if any at a.o. then your going for all the wrong reasons.. lol some need breaks..

Politics are just a fact of life in showing. Period. AKC, UKC, Horses....all the same. I have seen blatant nepotism and I will just never enter under that judge. I keep a list of good judges and judges that don't like my type of dog or put their friends up whether they are the best or not. I just don't open my wallet to those kinds of judges. It IS supposed to be fun but when you know no matter how well your dog shows you don't have a chance, kinda takes the fun out of it. JMHO.

Beings people are so concerned who the BS Judge is going to be , lets see who the Master of Hounds going to be. Just joking .If everyone is concerned about who it is , it must mean their dogs dont meet the standards for how they should be. Just show up and show your dogs. It seems that the show people are always worried about who the judge is and you never see where someone is concerned who the MOH is. Just my opinion.

why is it the ones that dont win love to whine about political.. Seems like i remember green carpet event where a lady showed her class walker dog to an old friend and won that way.. Its simple untill ukc goes to a 3 judge pannel its going to be that way.. Either show your dog or dont. There is no crying in dog showing

I gave up hoping to win at these big events after my first time showing at Autumn Oaks. Now we go for the good friends we get to visit and the free flowing BS shared over drinks in the evenings. The chances of winning at Autumn Oaks are so slim anyway, just go to have fun being around other coonhound enthusiasts. Hope the weather is good this year!

Sometimes if you know someone does not lilke your style dog why would you travel 10 or 11 hours just to be disappointed again. I'll put m y dogs up against anyone's but if there are judges picking faces he is not going to win. Get real--you all know this happens. There are favorites out there and it is a sad truth. We each have our own way of thinking and I don't have a problem if you think I am wrong. Been doing this for a long time and have seen it all. Has nothing to do whether my dog meets the standard or not but whether the judge is ethical.

I dont even understand UKC. revealing the judge until the day of the show. Im sure they will hire a qualified judge that knows the breed standards.
Imagine if the coonhunters didnt enter unless they got a judge that liked their style of dog? What difference does it make anyway the prettiest hound in the country isnt worth the cost of the trophy if it cant tree a coon.
