Tree Assassin Bloodline?

Does anyone know much about the Tree Assassin line? I heard it got back to Rambo II and some older Hammer blood. Just curious if anyone knows the origin of this line, and or how they hunted/ what style of hound they were?

Thanks,

Curtis J. Todd

Hussler

They are from the Hussler line of the late Doc Householder.. Rambo was a female that Doc owned. Has NOTHING to do with the current Rambo blood you see out here of Lonnie Smiley's... Docs dogs were intensly bred Hammer 2 and Mountain Music Blood... They made a died in the wool Bluetick man out of me. They had extreamly keen ability to wind coons in trees, actually it was unbelievable how far they could wind a coon... Doc suffered a severe blow to his breeding program due to a nasty divorce and was court ordered not to breed any dogs or dirive any money from selling them.. So they sat on chains and died off.. Others ie Larry Storts had some of Doc's stock and continued them as the Tree Assassin line, but the damage was done and the line suffered as a result of crosses that could not be made to advance them... Larry did a great job with what he had to work with and should be commended for his efforts... I have lost contact with Larry so I do not know of their status today..

Hussler Bred

In the fall of 1989 I drew out with a young dog named Twin River Thumpin Thunder. He was owned by Charles Litchfield from Point Pleasant West Virginia. If memory serves me right, he had just placed fairly high at Autumn Oaks a couple weekends before. Charles told me he was double Hussler bred. At the time I was jsut getting into Blueticks & had no idea what he was talking about. Thunder was about 13 months old, every other dog in the cast was 2 years old & older. The young dog ended up winning the cast, the thing that sticks in my memory was an old track they were all grubbing on toward the end of the cast. All the dogs had gotten sort of scattered while working the track. One dog treed slick off it, Thunder ended up treed by himself, & the other two dogs ended up covering Thunder after we arrived at his tree. Thunder had the meat & that coon basicaslly won the cast for him! Charles told me he had a full brother to Thunder at his house that was just as good if not better than Thunder. He was a good looker with a nice mouth. I don't remember any layup jobs that night, but he sure as heck impressed me putting the scald to a bunch of older dogs on a bad track!

Arrow what?

Had coon almost everytime! Walked to very little empty trees and owners never took a.leash just told.old pete cant get him lets go and he would stop.treeing and go get another or he say lets go home and both would walk right beside him to truck then he would say load and close doors the only fault I seen was they liked possums on the ground never treed any just liked to chew on them.

My old male dog Steel was out of that bloodline, he was the best lay up hound i have ever seen, he passed away last year at 15 yrs old. I got him from Todd Abel out of Dover Ohio, however he no longer hunts or has dogs. I would love to have another one like Steel thats for sure.

Posted by mleck on 03-12-2013 04:16 AM:

Skinner, did you ever have any pups off of Steel.

I talked with Larry today. he advised he has been hunting and has done more i the last 6 months than he has in the last several years. he has Xcite throwing really nice pups and has 4 young dogs that he is really high on.

Had one litter out of him not really sure but think two of the litter went on to be nite champs, its been awhile though, I did have a female out of him for about 3 years however at the time i was not hunting and she was a big house dog. Then i had to move and couldn't take her with me.

old bloodline article

I just looked up and read an article in an early 90's may issue.
It said that their current dogs(early 90's) went back to Old Hussler 40+ times, Mountain Music Blue 60+ times, and Hammer II 80 + times. So they were very heavy on line breeding of the old foundation hounds. At that time they had several litters where all of the pups were very tree minded at a very young age.

So I guess that having a dog in your pedigree 5 times is not that big of a deal. LOL

Murph, what was the Krooked Creek Bl Anna female out of?

Wasn't Gr.NT.Ch.Krooked Creek Bl. Jackson out of the original Jet dog? I had just noticed that Zeb was out of Son and wondered what his bottom side was.

I was hoping by chance that Anna was out of Boots...

Must be a different Crooked Creek though. Had the new name change rules been in effect Hector's Bess would have carried the name Heyde's Jet Blue Bess II.(He changed it) I intended on buying her back but she died young. I raised the litter out of her and Jet Seven.

I like the looks of this female! Are most of the tree assassin dogs small framed? The female I know that is tree assassin bred is a smaller framed dog. She's probably 45 pounds. Her mother was also a small hound as well.

Murph, That's a good lookin Blue you got there for sure!

DUAL CH 'PR' GABBY'S TREE POUNDIN BOCEPHUS

Bo was out of Pounder x Gabby (Owned by Marcus Leck). She showed some of the Tree Assassin/Hussler line. Not sure if he was of a typical Tree Assassin dog, but I'd give about anything to have another Bo. Bo spent most of his 2nd year of life battling Lyme's disease. Shortly after his 3rd birthday I had to put him down as he all of a sudden lost the use of his rear legs.

Bo's hunting style was pretty diversified, but his biggest trait that I saw was that he didn't run by coon. Often times in a cast, (usually the last dump or 2), cast members would make reference to that he needed to get going and find a coon as he would be within 100 yds of us yet, but I don't remember a time when he would do that that he didn't sooner or later throw his big locate and roll it over to a hard chop and have a coon while other dogs were "hunting" looking for a coon.

I know we all have different terrains and coon populations to hunt in, and we want something different in our hounds, but I would be proud to always have a dog like Bo tied up at my place till the day I die.

On another night the hunt was winding down, and 3 dogs were at 125+, 150+, and 175+. By the time the hunt ended, we had 3 split trees, 1 dog had a possum, 1 dog had a slick, and Bo was another 150-200 yds deeper up the hollow with a coon. I've had many proud moments with that dog.

Sorry for going on and on about him, but I sure do miss him. When I owned him I wasn't ever embarrassed to call him mine.

Here's a video if you wanna know what he had for a mouth on the tree.

he is colored like ole Hussler ... Sorry he is gone !!!May you find one just like him... I hunted a fair amount with Doc Householder in the mid 70's to early 80's.. His dogs were on the small side, but they were Big on gettin under a coon... They started early, were fast and treed hard... Lots of times they never heard the gun crack or hear the coon hit the ground they were so intense on the wood...

I wouldn't say Bo was THAT intense, but he suited me. It was very frustrating losing him, especially with the amount he accomplished in such a short amount of time.

Bo was a true first and first type of dog, and he was 55 lbs. Maybe he was a lot like the dogs you're describing.

He was a littermate to Pounder 2, I may have to track him down and try and get a pup out of him since I was never able to get pups out of Bo.
