Stud dogs of today...Lets see the numbers!

Lets make a thread that lists the studs of today who are on your papers and the closest to current numbers you have on them. Like they always say the numbers never lie! Lets limit thus to studs with over 100 pups as its impossible to judge one who hasn't had the chance to prove themselves!!

Ill start:

The percentage is what you look at to determine how he is reproducing. The numbers don't matter. Percentages equal the playing field. This was a reply to Mike Shannon's statement which disappeared somehow.

I turned it around the other way and showed Trackman had 86% of non titled dogs. 90% for Mr. Smith. That means 2148 Trackman dogs didnt title or 325 for Mr. Smith. So if Mr Smith had 2141 more pups than he did, who knows how many more titled dogs would he have? I look at things a little different.

Not trying to make a fuss, your first statement you said "numbers don't lie " then second statement you said " the numbers don't matter". To me the number is 100%. That 100% is customer satisfaction. To each his own. You may not like what I do or vice versa. It solely is the person who buys the pup a competition hunter or a pleasure hunter that makes a studs percentage.

The numbers meaning percent of pups with titles don't lie. The ratio can. It looks more impressive that a dog has 400/2500 pups titled but he's not much better than a dog who has 16 / 100. Percentage is what matters. The question is what does it take to be a "Good Reproducer" there are slot today who receive alot of publicity who have no reproductive ability.

I have to go with Frank Gidding and say numbers don't lie! If you want your dogs name on the list at the back of the magazine,it takes numbers. My Dad owned Yadkin River Dixie and the last time I seen a Bloodlines magazine she was still on the list. UKC don't just put any old dog on the list,they have to earn it! Most people that say numbers don't matter are people whose dogs don't reproduce. THANK you and every other Veteran out there!!

In my opinion if a dog has 500 to 1000 pups there should be a minimum 50 for 500 and 150 for 1000 to be a reproducer.

My opinion

In my opinion there would be A LOT more good dogs if stud owners didn't breed their dog to just any old bitch. If you have a real nice female you wouldn't breed her to a dog that can't tree it's own coon and isn't a top notch coon dog and most would hunt with it a few times to see with their own eyes what kind of dog he is SO why would you breed your prize stud to a female that isn't top notch. If people bred like this the percentages would go WAY UP AND THE NUMBER OF PUPS ON THE GROUND WOULD GO WAY DOWN. Again this is just my opinion.

The Numbers

There is a Grey area here no one has mentioned,

For these numbers to be truly accurate, you need to find a way to take out the number of hounds that are used solely on Big Game.

Bear and cat hunters are not entering their hounds in coon hunt events. the hounds that make the big game grade, are just as impressive to them as your Nt. Ch. or Gr. Nt. Ch. are to you,, only the numbers never show on the positive side of reproducing,, they are judged as a negative,,,,,,,,,

The numbers are important but the age of the sire has a lot to do with his percentages. a five year old male will usually have about all of his pups 2 years old or younger so most of those pups that will title haven't yet.

Comparing a five year old males numbers with a ten year old males numbers isn't a fair comparison because the ten year old males pups are older.

Now once the males last litters are about five the numbers tell a big part of the story but then its too late to know unless he was collected.

Need to hunt with a lot of pups and look at the numbers to gather enough information to use a sire while he is still living.

Travis this is a valid point. The number of pups hitting the ground is almost insane. When us it time to throw in the towel on a stud? As for the big game hunters those dogs are lost numbers we are talking coonhound reproducers.

Have several breeds but redbones is what I have had for years!! Just noticed trends in studs in general. I can include some redbone stats but the font have nearly the pups produced as the walkers.
