See How Good Your Dogfood Really Is Right Here

I was surprised at some of the junk I have fed my hounds in the past.

Considering that on their scale of 1-5 stars, with 1 being the worst and 5 being the best, giving Purina Pro Plan 2 stars and Purina Chow one star purty much blows all their credibility right out the window. In other words, this site ain't worth a dam.

This website rates dogfood by the ingredients list on the bag. The guy who built this site probably Has one dog and keeps it in the house

I feed, what in my estimation was a quality dog food. I feed the Taste of the Wild High Prairie dry food. I am only feeding one hound at this time, and find it to be tremendous food. A bit over $1.20 a pound it is a tad pricey, but for one or two hounds, very affordable. I feed a bit over 2 cups a day and am seeing great results. It will not bloat when water is added to it. I add water in the winter just to insure that Jester drinks plenty of water, as I worry about dehydration in the winter.

http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-f...d-dog-food-dry/

Compared to some of the other foods I have fed that are on the list, I would tend to agree at least on the comparative numbers and analysis. But opinions are like elbows, we all have em.

Here is another website that is not connected to the other. Rates the same foods real close to the other sites ratings.

Bobby sometimes the truth hurts!!!mine rated 4 stars in which being diamond extreme athlete and the bottom line is if it scored 1 star I would still not change thing I like the food the dogs like the food and although I don't like paying 39$ for40 lbs thatsthe price of doing buisness! Jmo

I'm skeptical of any review that looks at the name of an ingredient and ASSUMES the worst quality on that ingredient.

I'll feed a dog food to a dog and a month later I will have my opinion on it.

I just found it very interesting. I feed Diamond Extreme Althelete also. It has worked out real well for me also. I have fed alot of different feeds and most worked out well until I started hunting real hard. Everyone has different opinions on dogfood. Alot has different results with the same food. If it works well for you and your hunting style, that is all that matters. Diamond EA works well for my hunting style when most of the others failed poorly in my opinion.

Look again, Diamond EA rated 5 STARS.

I'm not sure what is so hard to understand about independent dog food ratings. Canines are carnivores and carnivores primarily eat meat not grains.

Grains such as corn, rice, barley, corn glutten meal etc are not highly digestible and provide little nutritional value. Companies use grains as fillers in dog food. Dog foods that have main ingredients comprised of meat (beef, pork, lamb), chicken and fish are rated higher than those who's main ingredients are grains. Seems pretty easy to understand to me.

How many members of the canine family including fox, coyotes, wolves, dingos, jackals and wild dogs eat grains on a regular basis? NOT MANY so why would you feed dog foods who's main ingredients are grains?

People can debate and refute the sites findings and ratings to your hearts content but until someone on this site can show me their PhD. in animal nutrition I'll go with what the experts say.

I agree with you Jim. Anyone who believes that Purina Pro Plan Performance is a 2 star food has been smoking crack, or has been huddled up in the obama corner to long.

personally, I think it all boils down to what your individual dog does good on and what you can afford. each of these sites listed the highest cost food at the top of the food chain. that may be true but money doesnt always buy quality. One of the sites listed Candida as a 4 or 5 star, but they were involved in one of the food recalls. I have tried to feed a couple of the higher cost feeds, but most of the time the dogs turned their noses up at them. If you have 1 or 2, you have the ability to pick and choose and try varieties to find one that suites everyone. MOST of us do not have that luxury...and have a hand full or so of mouths to feed!!

I do not believe the reviews of Purina either. I have been feeding a combo of Pro Plan, P-One for several years and have recently added the Active Life variety. Everyone does well, good stools, some gain too much weight! Overall, Im pleased with the results.

I have tried the Diamond Naturals and was happy w/ it until the dog started loosing weight...then there was the recall. Native - dogs wouldnt touch it. Have use Black Gold many years ago. again it was good until the day I opened an oily bag and the putrid smell. Pedigree in the early years and then I was able to upgrade.

Most of us have tried various feeds available to us. We all have our opinion on what works "best". but best for me is not best for everyone and everyone's dog.

good luck.

totally agreed!! these sights are a joke!! the more money you send them the better rating you receive

my rating on these dog food sights---0

Are you people trying tom say that diamond is the only dog food that has had a recall???? Are the only ones that would confess to having an issue ???? Yes they had a problem but at least they didn't deny or look the other way and actually since then I sighned up for the dog food recall notice and I get sent notices a lot more often then I would have thought a person would and they weren't from the diamond company!!!!!as I said to each his own and to me dea is the best food I have seen and yes I have fed alot of different until I came up with dea in which the dogs love it and work well on it and believe mei would rather by a cheaper food but the way I look at it is I ask a lot from my dogs so if they give me what I want why shouldn't I give them what they want and like!!!! Jmo hope you are happy with whatever you feed!!!

Posted by Bobby Reynolds on 01-18-2013 07:57 PM:

I have read hundreds of dogfood threads on the other board. The names the come up the most as the best are Diamond EA and Native. I don't know about Native, I have never fed it. I do know that I am a seasonal worker and when I am laid off I hunt everynight several hours a night. PRO PLAN don't cut it here. Dogs loose weight when hunted like that. That is not nothing but the pure truth of it. I switched to Extreme Althelete because of what I read on the other board. The dog being hunted the hardest started picking up weight and muscle within 2 weeks and was still being hunted everynight without a break. Because the price EA went up, I switched to a cheaper feed that alot of people around here was getting along with. I bought a 10 bag load. Inless than 30 days I went and bought more EA to mix with this feed so I could get it fed. I am back to EA only and it is probably going to stay that way. I know that I was not the only one that had that same problem with PRO PLAN but if it works for you, that is all that matters. I know of others that get along fine with PRO PLAN, but I know of just as many who had the same experience as I did.

I have tried alot of feeds through the years, I only keep a few hounds so price isnt a big issue for me. I always seem to end up back feeding purina products. They are consistent from bag to bag, dogs eat it well, its always available, my dogs always look good and hunt hard on purina and they support our sport.

exactly and about 1.5-2 years ago when someone asked about dog food diamond ea was the hottest answer. Now its victor. People keep on switching there brand of dog food but forget the most important thing and that's how digestible it is. Purina Pro Plan Performance is 84% and that has grain in it.
I did in fact feed diamond ea for about 8 months until late summer rolled around when the temps were high. Dogs did good on it until they started overheated on it. So I ignored the people who said grain and corn is bad for a dog and fed pro plan and havent looked back since.

Not trying to justify any position. I have none whatso ever. I could careless what anyone feeds. I was just stating an opinion. I know that when it comes to dogfood it is like asking what truck is the best. Everyone will have their own opinions on what they like the best and that is the way it should be.

please noone take this the wrong way!

My family has had hounds before i was born and wont tell you what my uncle use to say about dog feed but heres my exp! I have fed all the top brands!Purina,Iams,Diamond and so on my experience in this is some dont give this dog what he needs this one does but not enough fat or protien ,This one makes dog looks great but runs out of energy!,well this one makes him have all kinds of energy but looks could kill!It depends on how your dog reacts to the food you are feeding my dogs all get 4 Health,Sport and Agility! This is one of the best feeds out there. If you do a search on the top feeds its Blue,Taste of the wild and 4 health. Its cheaper then Blue or taste of the wild and made with real meat no by product or soy! it can take a skinny well fed dog and make them look as healthy as they ever will in one wk!
