whos got the worst hunting ground?

after making a couple of trips.i have realized my huntin sux!we are lucky some nights to look at 1 or 2 coon.you come in after daylight always wore out from humping over them hills all night.
west and north of me the hunting seems good.plenty of coons and decent ground to hunt on.the dogs dont have to go very far and seems like you can always get closer with the truck before you walk in to them.
some of you fellows got it made and dont even know it.

Don't know if we got the worst, but I would venture to say that we have some of the most diverse in the country. This last summer it was 105 for nearly two weeks with 80 percent humidity, and the winters have seen 20 below zero wind chills for a month or better at a time. The wind here blows more often then not. Some years a foot of rain and nearly fifteen feet of snow, this last year we have had an 1.5 inches of rain since May, and last winter only brought 18 inches of snow. I live along the old Missouri River basin, so the land differs from mile-to-mile; some hunting areas are flat corn fields along creek lines, some are steep bluffs that take some belly crawling to navigate through cedar trees. As far as hunting goes, some nights are phenomenal and some nights just plain suck, which I'm sure is similar all over the country, no matter what the area.

I think it's a tie for me between Murfreesboro, TN and Savannah, GA. In TN you've got the mountains which suck and in GA you've got so much undergrowth to cut through it sucks too. I've been where you're at Mike and you are a better man than me for hunting there!

I guess if you're going to be dumb you gotta be tough. LOL Sometimes I wonder if we aren't gluttons for punishment.

Lee has good hunting.
he is smart enough to go north.lol

Posted by Dirtdevil on 11-29-2012 01:53 AM:

The worst hunts I've had was when I went somewhere it looked nice and scenic with easy hunting ... folks love it , but a coon don't stand a chance , lol.

Give me some briars , swamp , ticks or whatever you want as long as I see a coon when I get there my adrenaline will kick in and numb the aches and scratches .

But , I do think Lee and Rip have campaigned long enough to win the award for worst hunting ground ... when they bring up where they hunt it sounds like the start of most of our dentist visit stories ....

Not real good here in Southeast KY. But if a dog trees coon here Consistently, he can win anywhere.

rough

I was in a spot the other night i dont care if i ever hunt there again. Went with a friend to one of his spots not far off the mississippi river, cloudy struck in at 600 yds, took the track in deeper til i lost signal. We started walking and dropped off the first hill into hell. This area was straight up and straight down, she ended up being treed almost a half mile in with the meat. Didnt know where we were except the garmin showed us where truck was to get back. It did help when we saw the little signs that said I.D.N.R. and some campsites that you had to backpack into. lol. I said we need to get the he** out of here. Started into her at 10:10 pm and got back to truck at 12:20 pm. We didnt stop to take any breaks either. Looked like i had been in a sauna when we got back and 10 minutes later was about froze drivin home in the truck. Lord why do we do what we do. lmao

Haven't hunted too many states, but out of OK,Ar,Oh,In,Ill,Tn,Ms,kY not the worst(I enjoyed every minute of it) but the Toughest hunting I have seen is in S.La with Steven Gambel. Swamps,Heat,Briars,Blowdown and every critter that crawls.Makes most hunts seem like a stroll on the golf course.CAN'T WAIT TO DO IT AGAIN.

I don't mind our hills to much..its the having to go half mile to strike coons that i hate. Just no Coon population that's the problem.

I had that problem. Most common thing I herd was "if this was what I had to hunt I'd just quit". My huntin was so bad I went drove up to hunt with you instead LOL.

I got smart and moved to better huntin.

Ummmm come to think of it how many times did you come back to my spots before I moved????

I love it where I am now, got coon comin out my ears and it's good ground. It's a mite thick with saw briars etc but I got plenty of coon now.
