Old fashioned tracking systems.
You would think that you could buy an old fashioned tracking system at a really really discounted price but thats not what I'm seeing. New ones are still $500 or $600 and used ones are anywhere from $300 to $700. I did see one or two for $175 but that wasn't the norm. Are people really paying this much for them ?
Go to Valley Creek E-bay site you can buy them all day long under $200.00.

them mew fangled garmins are real nice till they loose the signal or go haywire on a hunt . lot's of people are still using the beep beep systems for backup especially the biggame boys . them dc40's are still giving people fits .

I can never understand posts like this, gotta be people that have never actually used a Garmin. They may not work underground but it will take you right to the hole where it lost signal.

I bought mine 6 years ago for 420$....never updated, works fine today....I even still use the origional dc 20 occasionaly.
I know they arent perfect, but they are a giant leap ahead of the beep-beeps.
The steps saved, hours of sleep gained, getting ahead of a dog before it gets into trouble.....What are these things worth?
Run what you want, but for me a beep beep would be like going back to riding horses.

i run both. i have had garmin fail me a time or two and had to pull out the tracker to get a bead on the dogs. but the garmins are light years head of beep trackers. i still like the beep systems and when im hunting a new dog or getting used to a dog i will sometimes just run the old tracker. find myself looking at screen instead of listening at times.

I have saved two dogs that I may have lost forever without my Garmin. One fell in a well and the Garmin walked me right to the well.
Another dog of mine got back in an old deep mine and the Garmin walked me right to the mouth of the mine. I could hear her moving around in there and whimpering. By shining my light down in there she was able to see how to get out and crawl back to me. No doubt in my mind with a beep beep style collar she would have died in that mine without me ever knowing what happened to her.

When the beep-beeps came out , folks swore by them .. now come to find that was all wrong because the garmin is what we can't live without and the beep-beeps that folks swore by all those years aren't good enough ?
It's a never ending game played by the ignorant and foolish , but they love it and so be it .
A good bond with your dog , discipline , homing instinct , knowing the woods , stars and all that stuff ... is still the best way to keep your dog safe and have a good hunt .... folks have strayed from alot of that and are relying on technology to get it back , but it's a poor substitute.
Tools that make any job easier and safer are fine , but they are only as good as the person using it ... an artist doesn't credit his paint brush ... Michael Jordan didn't credit whatever new style of basketball was made for him ...
I got no problem with technology , but I do take issue with crutches or anything that takes away from common sense and work ethic.
I'm not sure how so many coonhunters can be anti-obama/big government that breeds dependency ... and then be so dependent on garmins and shockers .
I don't like to be dependent ... on food stamps , welfare , garmin or anything else .... if I need that to have fun , I wouldn't be having fun anyway ....
old beep beeps
Last winter while coyote hunting a freind offered to put a garmin collar on my start dog when I went to turn him loose with his female. I said no thats ok I can find him, never lost one yet. Right after we turned loose we had a real heavy snow storm that lasted about an hour and a half. The dogs got split and we had no idea where his female was until it quit snowing. That garmin would not work any way you could try it. Old beep beep put us right to my dog. You could'nt have sold me a truckload of garmins cheap that day. I know they have their place, It just aint with me.
Two of the first 3 ads are complete systems under $200.
You aren't trying hard enough.
