Joe Morris - Tragedy at Wilson Hunt

It is with extreme sadness that I announce the passing of Joe Morris, my friend, hunting buddy, and respected English breeder. Joe lived in Kenly, NC and is most recently known for his stud dog that made #1 on the current reproducers list a couple of years ago, HARDTIME BOOGER.

Joe was on a cast out of Toisnot Swamp CHA in Wilson, NC last night, he had won the cast and as exiting the woods had to stop for multiple breaks complaining of tightness in his chest and breathing. The cast was gracious and waited with him advising him to take his time and they were not in a rush. Upon exiting the woods Joe suffered a massive heart attack and fell face first, Doctors tell his wife it was instant, likely a massive heart attack.

Joe was my best friend and hunting partner, I was MOH at the club and when the cast came back had the sad job of calling his wife to inform her to contact the hospital. If any members from that cast read this Mrs. Carolyn thanks you for your efforts last night. I am glad Joe and I went pleasure hunting one last time Friday night the 16th, it is now a hunt memory I will treasure forever.

Rest in Peace my friend!

Joe will truly be missed, he is one of the most honest people you could ever hunt. Every time I drew out with him I had a good time regardless if I won or not. Joe took great pride in the dogs he raised and he made a great contribution to the English breed. He truly will be missed by all who knew him.

Joe Morris

I have known Joe for several years and have hunted with him as well. Joe was a first class man and a true sportsman. If his dog won it was because the dog won ---- period.
Joe hunted a line of English hounds that won many hunts in our area. Joes belief was breed coon dog to coon dog and it worked. He will be missed by many, myself included.

I'm saddened to here this terrible news. I've known Joe a many of years, and have hunted against him in a many of hunts. He had a lot of respect for me and my dogs and I had a lot of respect for him and his. Joe and I always made it a point to talk to one another and discuss our dogs, the English breed, and to just share our passion for our dogs and sport when we were at a hunt, whether it be a local or out of town hunt. Joe was not my best friend, but a friend indeed, and a good person I'll will miss at the hunts.
We never know when our time on this Earth is up, but as the old cliche' goes, Joe Morris left this Earth doing what he loved.

Our prayers go out to his wife and family.........may God bless you.

This has been an extremely ruff year for me. I lost my Father this year and now one of my Best Friends, Joe Morris who has been a very close friend of mine for a long time. To tell you what kind of a person he was, a number of years ago I was extremely frustrated with coon hunting. I'd been through 5 or 6 pups and basically wasted a lot of time and had nothing to show for it. My old female Sadie was getting up in years and for whatever reason was unable to have pups. Joe Morris asked me if I would consider hunting a pup off Hardtime Booger. I was frustrated and told him heck I would try anything at this point. He gave me a little male pup who was the runt of a litter. It did not take long to see what this little fella lacked in size he more than made up for it in mouth ! I kept Joe up to date on his progress and when he was ready we started putting him in the hunts. Joe and I tag teamed this little hound and finished him to PKC Champion and UKC Grand Nite Champion. CHGRNTCH Hickorycross Roscoe, he was the first hound Joe and I owned together and the beginning of Arbacross Kennels . Roscoe is still a constant reminder along with now several other hounds we own together, of how good a friend Joe Morris has been to me. Thanks Buddy you will be missed but NEVER FORGOTTEN !

Joe carried a five month old puppy back from a PKC hunt in Indiana for me. I have always appreciated him for doing it. This saddens me to learn of his sudden, unexpected passing. I know he will be missed by many, especially at the Toisnot Swamp CHA. My prayers are with his family and friends.
