Coon prices in Ohio

has anyone heard what is the expected price of coon pelts this season..?

From what I heard.....Not looking good.

$1 to $5 is the word I've heard

Might be a good year to leave'em in the woods and only knock out what the dogs need.

I'll knock a few out the first couple nites and take them to the buyer in Xenia to see what he's paying.

If things look good, I may save a few and put up to send to the auction.

It looks like Muskrat is gonna be good again this year. Super easy to put up and worth 3X as much as a coon.

Plenty of them rats around here in the city shopping center retention ponds!!!!

Unless things changed drastically....I sold a real nice coyote last year that brought $5.00

With all the hardwork of skinning and putting up one of these critters, I refuse to target coyotes anymore.

Its a shame becasue of how populated they're becoming, but you can't expect someone to go through the hassle of messing with one for a $5.00 payout..

I think we averaged about $6.50 on the Rats selling to a local furbuyer though. We were amazed at how such a little critter could be the same price of something so large. I guess its supply and demand.

Just my thoughts though.

I was at my fur buyer last year and a man brought in a bunch of yotes. Fur buyer told him he would have to pay him to take them. He didn't even want to mess with them.

The buyer from Brights in Mifflin Oh told me to expect it to average at $12....

Some of the "fur buyers" in our area buy them from the local guys then the next afternoon they take them to another local fur buyer and resell for what fur should be bought at. Had that happen to me to many times as well as being told my coon were rubbed and not prime. Offered me 12.00 for one whole, then when I told I would take it home and put it up myself he sort of got upset and offered me another dollar. Said it might make a 2x. I put that one up and it stretched to a 3x and at the zanesville auction brought 23.00. Asked the grader what he thought of it and said it looked good and heavy. Asked him about the rubbing he said the fur buyer was trying to pull one on me. I do understand people's got to make money but I do not appreciate being lied to. I also know unless china's early winter is cold, coon will not even be close to that price this year.

Most of what I got , winds up in Canada or NYC .
Justin , that's true this year . Last year I give $20..00 on average for coyotes on the carcass . Just no market .
At one time Ohio had over 200 fur buyers . Now less than 100 . It's a tough business . And work !!!

We sold 6 lastnight.. we had 2 big ones and rest were average and we got $42 total..

i was told $13-$14 a month ago. checked around today to confirm and the prices have gone down slightly $12 for xxx and should expect a $6 average.

Im sure this is a stupid question but I've never put up or sold any hides. What does on the carcass mean? Im guessing that it means the whole coon unskinned but if thats the case I didn't realize anybody would take em like that? I thought they at least had to be skinned out? Just wondering..... Does anybody buy them in VA anymore?

you got it. my uncle use to sell some hides around abingdon va but that was years ago.
