Wayne - A buddy and I were hunting right across the lake at the same time. Our dogs got down on the lake opposite from where his truck was parked. We couldn't have been more that 100 feet from where they found his boat and never knew it.

Long story short we had a drowning take place on a UKC hunt years ago. The hunt was over and one guys dog was across water treed. A spectator on the cast tells the guy that owns the dog that he would swim across and get his dog. The whole cast all but ties the guy up telling him no to no avale. He jumps in and goes under and never comes up. We drag the water all night and the next morning we pull him up about 5 foot from the bank where he went in. Guys no dog is worth it. Use common sense when your out hunting. Prayers up for the family in Pennsylvania.

Drowned Hunter

Prayers for family during this healing time.

it takes only a moment to make a big mistake. i know because i've done so. i fell off a roof one time, i bout got killed cutting a big limb off a tree while on an extension ladder and i bout fell off another roof when i missed a ladder step as i stepped off the roof. in a flash, it's done. still, i hunt alone, all the time.
i don't think i would swim for a boat in cold water though and i don't think i'll wade in water over my waders.
it's hard to imagine the disbelief and the reality the family must share. it's heartbreaking. life turns on a dime.

Wow Randy

Had you only knew, you might have made a difference... I have not heard if they found him yet... I hate hunting alone, I do it, but sure don't like it, for reasons just like this.. God Bless his family..

I think most of us coonhunters like the solitude of the sport....alone in the woods with the sound of a hound ringing the hills....the chances we take to enjoy this sport we love so much... I haven't heard anything. My buddy lives 10 minutes from the lake. If he hears before its on the news I'll let everyone know. With the water as cold as it is...

Dirtydog - I have relatives in Tennessee (Oak Ridge) but none that I'm aware of in Ky....but ya never know.

John - I'm sure you have. Did young Lee know him? I know he hunts it the same way at times...more so from the ATV.

Yeah, Lee and Caleb knew him.

He had a bluetick that he hunted with and a boat makes it alot easier to get around the lake. Some of that area can be pretty rocky, lots of places to break a leg.

Yea, I'm fairly familiar with it. My neighbor started me hunting there 35 years ago. There is a house foundation in the lake near the 528 bridge. He lived there before they flooded the area to make the lake.

My sympathy to the family on their loss. As an old coonhunter who hunts alone quite often if my time comes when im out at night with my dogs, i wont have any complaints.
