Finley River Hiker
I was looking at the '11 ACHA world hunt results and saw that a Finley River dog placed 11th. The dogs name is Brookshiers Finley River Hiker. I was wondering if anyone can tell me about the dog. Predigree, traits, etc.

Brookshier keeps good dogs. Both of my hounds have alot of brookshiers stuff that goes back to Uncle Lee..Hiker goes back to Uncle Lee as well.Hiker is out of Shoemakers Gator, and Lee is Gators sire. I have a female directly out of Gator also. Steve breeds for track driving dogs that are accurate. In my opinion its the heaviest Finley River stuff around. These dogs are hunted, not showed on the bench. If he is hunting it, its a nice dog. His Uncle Lee dog was on one of the Tomorrows legends videos.

You can see how one of my pups is bred if you go to this link. Him and my femal are bred alot alike. Same exact bottom side, a little different on top. But both have Uncle Lee in them.

Hey Joe, you PM'ed me but your mailbox is full. I tried to PM ya back.
His name might be Finley River but he's a really, really, really long way removed from any true old blooded Finley River dogs. Although, he probably is as close to the Real Finley River dogs out there today, and that's NOT close at all.
I disagree. Steve is about the only one I know that promotes FR Dogs, that doesnt out cross his "finley river" or lone pine dogs with trackman, x jr's, sackett jr dogs,ect.... All of steves dogs are dogs he has raised, hunted and owned. He line breeds hard. If you do some research on the dogs in Uncle Lee Ped, they are all heavy finley river. MOst guys will say they have heavy finley river, and one side of the ped will be sacket jr breeding, or something else. These dogs are finley river, top and bottom, with big name finley river dogs up close.

I wish he did have some... I miss those dogs completely. Where in uncle lee ped is a Finley river dog??? I only see one! The other dogs are far removed from Finley River Pete, spot, Dan, etc. Lee doesn't look a thing like any FR dog I've ever seen. I had a bunch in the 80's. That dog looks more lone pine which is only half FR. I don't see any lone pone in that dog 's ped either. I'm sure he's a good one but I would call that dog Steve's bloodline not FR.
To me all the dogs are FR, but I also know what their out of, and what they been bred too. Whats the one dog you are talking about? Mr Warren I assume?

That's the one!!! However, Lee and Hiker may posses the old traits and that's good but I would not classify that as a Finley river dog. I would call it whatever you want to call it TODAY breeding... Not FR
Sting is also heavy fr. So is Kate. They may not be house hold name dogs but they are very much loaded down with fr. Did you happen to see the link i posted to my pups pedigree. Do you think that's watered down fr too? And don't worry I won't be offended. He's for sale anyways LOL
No I hadn't seen it but I'll look! I had some dogs that were not household names either but FR they were. That's getting to be a long time ago now.
Cool let me know what ya think

Matt... Not too many can say they have Little hawk or sport in their ped. That pup should have some old traits. Tar rattler should be noted too! Some of those dogs obviously I've never heard of but more of them than you think. Good hunting
Thanks. He is about the heaviest I've actually seen. Not sure he is gonna suit me though to be honest.

I had two types of FR dogs. One bunch out of FR Dan and the other bunch out of the Kentucky River line Russ Bellar had campaigned. The Kentucky Riv had flag tails (or most of them) and longer hair. I'm not sure there wasn't something else mixed in there besides walker but I had better luck out of them. Those dogs were super tough. They didn't reproduce well at all. The ones out of Dan reproduced better but started rather slow to today's standards. Most folks would have given up on them. I have a friend in Ft. Worth that has some old blood (watered down a lot now) FR dogs. He got his start from his daddy breeding a gyp to Spring Creek Tee Gee. The female was out of a dog most never hear of called gr nite Drifting Bush Hog which they owned. He was out of FRDan I think. He's stayed pretty consistent with that line for 30 years. They start slow too but finish well.

Matt... Stay with him... They can start slow some times. Remember, it's not how you start the race it's how you finish that counts. That long hair to me is not a fault to me at all. That tells me you really do have some old traits that are desirable. I had a dog name Tom. Longest haired walker I ever seen. He was out of gr nite Kentucky River Strick and a nite ch female out of Dan. Best cook dog I ever hunted with period! Where I hunt on the Brazos River it's full of briars and rough crap. Most dogs that hunt here come out of that stuff bleeding but not him. That long hair protected completely. Wish you could have hunted with him. You would have had a stroke at how much and how many coon he'd tree. He hunted way too far for me now. Today, even on the ranch, he'd go until he found a coon even if it was too counties over. He would stay treed until about 9:00 in the morning if I couldn't get to him across the river. Stay with that pup...
He sounds like a good one. I like them hard hunting dogs. I do hunt with a guy though that dreads it. I will stay after that pup he sure can drive a man crazy though LOL. Yeah the long hair doesn't bother me at all. This summer when it got real hot here that pup started shedding all that hair just by looking at the kennel floor you would think I had a gorilla living in the kennel..Haha never seen a dog shed so much.
