Coon Hound Advisor

What good is it in having the COONHOUND ADVISOR, if the field rep will not look at it? Lets use them trees for toilet paper, maybe we can get some use out of it!!

Sounds like a story here....do tell

Dog A and B are treed. Trees are 10 feet apart at base. Dog A is running back and forth treeing on both trees, 10 feet apart. Judge says trees connect at top( will be scored as one). Should dog be minused? Now read your advisor, its in there.....

Posted by JiM on 09-16-2012 07:38 PM:

This one was discussed to death sometime back, the short version being that UKC took the official position that if two separate trees are scored as one at the top, a dog can run back and forth covering both trees at the bottom and cannot be minused for leaving the tree. The problem is that almost any competent judge, almost every MOH and apparently most field reps are not gonna allow that. This is what happens when UKC takes a position that is at odds with almost everyone that is actually out there judging in these hunts. Very few judges will stand there and watch a dog run back and forth between two separate trees and not minus that dog unless 1- they are aware of UKC's ruling AND 2- it is their dog doing the running.

If it's questioned, and brought back to MOH. And owner of dog shows MOH the advisor, where it states "if tree is same at top, its same tree at bottom", and MOH says advisor means NOTHING. what good is the advisor?

JiM, what do you actually go by? Rule book or advisor?

Posted by JiM on 09-16-2012 10:20 PM:

They are the same thing. It says so right on the scorecard.

Read the very first sentence on the back side of the card.

This is one of those situations where the rule covers it bit the Advisor clarifies it. If two trees are scored as one then the dog can't be minused for leaving tree because two trees are being scored as one.

And this is why you would be good for the job. You have been there, done that, and know where to look for the answer. I bet we would never hear you say, "my hands are tied." No we would not hear that from you. Hopefully they hire someone that has been there and done that, instead of someone that has just been there.

You couldn't pay me enough to sit behind that desk and tell a judge he can't minus a dog for running back and forth between two complete separate trees just because they happen to touch at the top. Not for all the cows in Texas and I don't envy them that have to do that.

I realize there are two sides to every story but if this actually happened then somebody needs to be called on the carpet because they would be in the wrong to say the advisor means nothing. This is in direct conflict to UKC rules and should be dealt with.

Of course, there are two sides and that's why I said IF this actually happened LOL.

he may have been on the final cast at a.o. they didn't go by it that night either.

Wasn't this year my dog treed a possum. Two dogs came in to the tree after the jude arrived. One after I handle by dog and one before I could handle her.(didn't want to be caught under a possum) Judge wanted to scratch all three dogs. I question it saying only my dog should be scratched. Went back to master of hounds. He said scratch the one that came in before I handled my dog and not the one after. The Advisor says A dog should not be scratched for coming in to a tree after the jude and cast arrive. But he wouldn't look at the advisor.

we had a question on a vote on a tree... 2 voted circle 2 voted slick... it was questioned and took back.... the field rep said delete... showed it to him in the advisor and it remained circle

Posted by BIG HAROLD on 09-17-2012 10:04 PM:

Was it a slick? Or circle/slick?

But, in all honesty, do you think a coon was up the tree?

The sad part about this one is. The young man this happened to would have advanced.

i think in all honesty the coon could have been in the tree in question.... i do not think it was there.... what i think has no bearing on it tho... the rules say if there could be a coon there and its not seen.... circle.... in all actuallity the whole cast was a mess from the git go.... not complaining just my thoughts on the matter
