Well, like the press release says, it moved because we thought we could put on a nicer event for our customers. There are lots of factors. This is a beautiful facility and this event will be unlike anything else in the sport being held in the civic center. And we should have a better draw being more centralized in the south. It certainly puts the event closer to more people.

We wanted to move it last year but decided to stay in Albany for the 25th anniversary celebration out of respect for the Deep South Classic Coonhunters and the city of Albany. But we would simply like to try something different for the next 25 years. Autumn Oaks hasn't always been held in Richmond? It's moved from time to time. I think that event has been improved because it was moved.

Sure hate to see this. I've hunted both areas and the hunting around Albany is better.

I know a lot of calls and emails were put in about the Winter Classic staying in Albany, hate that our voices weren't heard. Especially considering that the city of Albany and the Exchange Club fairgrounds were willing to do what needed to be done to keep the Winter Classic in Albany.

Well good luck. Guess the show folks will be happy. Didnt realize a hunt needed a civic center.

Its all about the money these days..would think something that was started and been a tradition for so long woud matter...but Ben Franklin talks louder. Think if they wanted an event in MS they should of made one for it not take ours.

I hate that it was moved. There was a lot of local hunters that looked forward to this event every year. A lot of them was pleasure hunters who just went to buy equipment. With all those quail plantations I'm sure Albany had another facility to use. Surely that was not the sole reason.

Dogs tied up on Asphalt and muddy hunters and dirty dogs that civic center is expecting the Westminster Show not a coonhunt lol I'm not sure respect was given in the decision to move the hunt

Batesville, MS

Just made my reservations!

Posted by Todd K / UKC on 07-18-2012 03:08 PM:

No, you do not need a civic center to have a coonhunt. This isn't some fancy facility, it's more like a rodeo / stadium atmosphere. Dogs and dirt welcome. It will house everything under one roof. The show, vendors, sponsors, breed associations, kitchen, restrooms, UKC office. Weather will not be an issue. This facility also has just as large of an open sided building for studs, dogs, pups, etc. Tons of parking in fields around the facility. Very easy in and out. Just off the highway. It is going to be an awesome place to have a hunt.

I understand that those of you from Georgia are upset because it will be further away. But what does that say to anyone who lived west of central Alabama and has made the drive to support the event for the last 25 years? Now we are half way between Georgia and Texas. How could it be more fair to more people than that?

Wonder why the local club was told after the hunt last year that it would be back in 2013 if all along it was being moved to MS why waste the city and clubs time they didn't need to be lied to as to where the hunt would be held....Outta respect (25 years) they should have been told

At the time we did not have anything lined up. Heck the agreement was just signed this week. You can't tell one area you're not coming back if you don't even have anywhere to go? We just knew that we wanted to give the event a face lift and make some changes that benefit the sport. We were careful about answering any questions as to intent for 2013.

Yes. There are electric hook ups along the back side of the dog barn but I'm not sure how many. There is plenty of room to camp but not a lot of shade though that should not be a factor in January right? lol

I'm not upset,ya'll just made a stupid move.I been to the Batesville area on many occasions and have yet to find a pet friendly hotel in the area that was nice enough for my family to stay. There are some Roach motels that will take pets.
I have been to my last UKC Winter Classic
