UKC Affiliate Clubs That Oppose PAWS

If your club or Association would like to go on record as being opposed to this proposed legislation, email or pm me and I'll be glad to add you to the list of already hundreds of hunting and canine organizations that have stood up to be counted.

Likewise, if you would like to join HSUS, The Dorris Day Animal League and AKC in support of this legislation, I will post that as well.

If those UKC clubs listed above could furnish copies of their statement(s) to legislators opposing PAWS, I'd be more than happy to add them to SAOVA's PAWS Opposition list at http://saova.org/1139opponents.html Saying you're opposed to PAWS and not following up with a congressional communication isn't effective advocacy. Every one of those ~160 clubs have completed that necessary last step. I urge UKC clubs to do the same. We need our combined strength to beat this terrible, anti-breeder, anti-hunting dog bill.

Well it is official.....

We have gathered opinions from ALL but 1 of the directors and officers of the West Virginia Sporting Dog Assoc.( the group that recently held the AKC WV State Ch. Govenor's cup) and we unanimously OPPOSE the passing of the PAWS bill and will no longer be associated with Kennel clubs that support this legislation!

Thanks for your note and interest in killing PAWS. This fight appears as if it might be a protracted one, with AKC bad mouthing some club officers that join the effort and me personally. Right now sportsmen and their allies are in a numbers war, trying to demonstrate AKC doesn't speak for any of us on PAWS. What I need from you and any/all UKC clubs is a simple message to legislators that you oppose PAWS. That's my criteria for adding folks to the list, after a few early misunderstandings. The easiest way to do that is you use the preaddressed email titled Please Vote No ... That email is addressed to the chiefs of staff of the PAWS sponsors. I'll get a blind copy and immediately post your club's name as opposed to PAWS.

If you want to see some longer AKC parent breed club letters and see diferent perspectives, check out the following URLs. You needn't go to this level of detail, as it's all been said before repeatedly, but they're worth looking over.

Bob I seen where Steve said some comments on you and basically called you a liar and said that no AKC breed club is opposed to PAWS I did my research and found most of the ones you had listed even give thier opposition letter on thier website. Keep up the good work.

Paws & AB&TA

We just received the UKC letter on paws. On those opposed to the Paws, we do not see the American Black & Tan Coonhound Assn. We received a letter in July from them wanting to change the name of the breed registery to be able to join the AKC. We will certainly quit the American Black & Tan Coounhound Assn.

Also, on those opposed to Paws we only saw the Bluetick Breeders of America. What about the other breeds?

We are just pleasure hunters, but we are furious about the AB&TA joining with AKC to favor this bill!

Randall that was a letter from a new association trying to form I do believe It was from the AKC Black and Tan Trail and Treeing Hound Association not from the UKC ABTCHA. This is a newly formed association to try to get UKC B&T's registered with AKC and yes they said trail and treeing hounds the AKC bench standers get to have the name coonhoundours get the step child treatment and get named something other than what they have always been known as. Well I say ours I am not registering with AKC so anyone that does gets this.

AKC has a Q&A spot on thier site, they say that when people pull out of their registry we are only hurting the "dogs" and not them. They also stated that there is no financial gain for them going along with this "bill"

I know of several clubs in east texas That are againts the paws bill. This bill is an outrage to anyone that really loves dogs.

can someone please explain this bill that paws is trying to pass or what ever the deal is??? i'm a huge supporter of ukc and pkc and support what ever they have to say, i just have no clue what the paws deal is, i guess i'm out of the loop you might say. Please let me know because i know a bunch of people around here who i can tell to stop supporting the local paws organization.

I don't know about your area, but we held our 1st AKC hunt last month, We held a UKC hunt Fri & AKC Sat, Most of the dogs hunted in the AKC hunt won they're casts on Friday night and the other dogs that hunted were either titled dogs in UKC or pleasure hunters that were willing to give AKC a try vs being a newbie in a UKC hunt against already "seasoned" handlers.

To each is there own but I think everyone should give AKC a try, if don't like it- don't use it. Plain and simple.
Personally, I like that you can win a little money back for gas in an AKC hunt vs a UKC win slip.

The PAWS bill as proposed wouldn't effect me or any other coonhunter I know so I'm not too worried about it. Don't forget it's not even a law yet, it's just a proposed bill.

Just my two cents.
