what do you feed now?

I have fed over the years:
Pedigree - were not gaining weight, just didnt look good
Black Gold - ok until the formula changed and the price went sky high
Maximum Nutrition puppy (walmart) - they quit making it
Pride (green) - ok, then too many stools and they stunk, then coats were not looking good.
Diamond Naturals (chicken) - doing ok, gaining weight, then got pricey
Purina (Proplan, mostly Purina One shredded) - a little more pricey, but you get the checks and catch it on sale can get it for around $25/bag. good weight, 1-2 stools/ day (no smell unless fresh, solid), coats look good, dogs feel good, good weight maintenance.

Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete. I feed it because it is the best I can find that is still reasonably priced. Dogs do great on it.

Only diamond I could find was at our rural king and they have the naturals line almost $40 a bag and everyone I talked to said thats WAY over what it should be, but the closest place that has it a decent price is 45 minutes away. I tried the "normal" diamond that they had but they have the diarreah from it and their coats dont look very good at all. I've heard the Proplan is awesome but I havent got to check it out much.

I feed purina pro plan performance it is ok but over priced for what it is tried the native 2 different times but it didnt do what everyone I have talked to or seen on here dogs looked like crap and it is $50.00 a bag I tried the diamond e.a. liked that but got a batch that smelled like they collected it from the back end of the dog and put it back in the sack. My all time favorite was enhance pro athlete was the best dog food I ever fed bar none dogs liked it one stool a day. cost was affordable but then of coures they sold the company and messed with the ingredients and jacked up the price. so that was the end of that. Good luck finding something you like but dont get to used to just going and picking it up somewhere because eventually something will happen and you wont be able to get it or cant afford it.

Diamond Naturals is the best I have found for the money. $40 is overpriced. I bought a bag of DN Chicken and Rice at Tractor Supply this weekend for $28 including tax.
This is a very good site for dog food review. There will be some that will gripe about this site because it doesn't have their feed rated very high. This is good information, with justification for the rankings.

I have found that Purina ProPlan and Purina One are very similar except for price. You get the same points for both unless you feed performance. You are in Kentucky, sometimes at the AKC all breed shows there will be a Purina rep selling feed and they will have better prices and they accept the checks. I buy a batch of proplan at the Greenville SC show. Last batch I bought I got it for about $28 a bag for proplan by using the checks.

$28-$35 for diamond naturals at tractor supply. they also have their brand, 4Health, is also made by diamond and a little cheaper....no grain.

the best feed is what your dogs do well on and what you can afford. good luck.

Diamond Extreme Athlete ... most bang for your buck right now .

I was feeding Canidae with some ProPlan mixed in ... it was a good mix too .

If the stool is loose it is probubly because you are feeding to much at one time. I feed mine 4 cups a day. There stool stays good and tight. They look good, hunting good and winning every now and then. So I guess they are doing ok.

I agree....I feed Sexton Brothers Pro Endurance 24/18. At less then $20 a bag for a 50lb bag it is a very good dog feed. Don't have to feed alot. Weight stays on even when hunted 4-6 nights a week and dogs have good healthy slick coats. I've fed and paid more for Diamond Naturals, Pride, and Sportsmix and MY dogs just seem to do better and look better on Sexton Brothers.

Dog food

Red Paw, it used by most sled dog people. It is a fish base dog but my hounds do real good on it. They have a web site Red Paw.com
