Im FAMOUS every year around this time.....

Every year after season is out I start getting the calls"you hunting tonight...where you at...wanna go turn out...let's hit your spots,one reason is I have 9 good turnout spots within a 3 mile radius(hardly no traffic and no houses close)that I hunt alone 4 to 5 nights a week but the MAIN reason is all my buddies have mass murdered their coon during season just to say they did it and now they're only treeing the "passer by coons"so the hunting sucks.On the other hand they know I don't drop but a few during the year I took maybe 6 or 7 off my spots during 2010,I don't need feeders cause all my spots have either creek,streams or ponds so i have PLENTY coon.MY POINT IS(enough bragging lol)--STOP DROPPING ALL YOUR COONS OUT TO YOUR DOG,they don't need that many to stay sharp and that way you'll have GOOD hunting all year long.

in a 30 mi radius you could hunt the harvest season and not hit the same spot twice

Here most of my spots are community spots so a lot of people hunt them. If I don't knock em out during season others will.

In the handful of spots I got that are only mine I almost never shoot a coon out. Some spots I haven't shot a coon out in several years.

i totaly agree with you SugaMan. i know guy's that kill them all year. they say if there dog's tree them they are going to kill them. i live in nw pa we have alot of coon but that can change quick in a couple year's of killing. my dad told me if you have to kill every coon to make your dog tree you don't have much of a dog to start with.

I rarely ever shoot a coon here either! Prolly shot 10 last year total also. My dogs hunt good, young or broke! Plus who the hell wants to carry a gun all night??

Gotta agree with you there and to add WHO WANTS TO CARRY A COON AROUND unless it's a 40 pounder and thats rare in N.C.

i shoot one out of every 8 to 10. i have some good spots and i want to keep them that way. other come wanting to go to my spots in hopes i will know one out. yes i may know a few more out to a young pup who is just now treeing alone. but still don't knock out many. they not worth anything much and i would rather tree em than skin em

If your dog is fat,you aren't getting enuff exercise!

If you shoot out every coon,the dog wont have nothing to tree. one coon on the ground is one less coon the dog has to tree another night.

Wehave a couple guys in our area that will shoot every coon the see treed our not and there better not me more then one up there...and they call them self coon hunters....

we have a lot of coon here , i hardly ever kill any, but there are some guys that just cant leave one in a tree.

****, sucks to be you guys. I sold around 150 coon right before Christmas and with 4 kids, it gave them a nice little kick to the presents they found under the tree. I'm glad I don't live in an area where coon are as thin as what ya'll describe. We leave 'em be during the rut and when the kits are bumbling around. During season, the population can withstand a good harvest. Between the corn, creeks, rivers, ponds, and denning areas, we can support a heavy population. The last couple weeks when the weather broke, I hunted some of those spots again to see what affect the harvest activity had on them, still a good amount of coon so all is good. I only drop 'em during the hide season unless a farmer is taking a beating on the sweet corn patches.

I'm kinda the same way, my dog very rarley gets a coon in his mouth and the areas where I hide hunt are the same places that I hunt all year. some say you cant kill them coons and expect there to be coons in there, but we do it year after year. I dont kill out of season only in season. and I dont hunt all night every night. I only hunted 24 nights and killed 79 coons. and I hunted all over the state. just dont have to wear a spot out. got plenty of coons and good hunting.

i am not killing all those coons just because i dont want to carry them out and take care of them, if i had to kill for christmas presents i would just work another couple hrs a week, it is a lot less work then dealing with coons.

In high population areas if you don't thin them out nature will. Disease doesn't take a few then leave, it can wipeout an area for a couple years I've seen it happen. If you hunt the same place much you will know how many coon are there and how many can be taken. We got over 200 coon this year and that's not hunting the same place twice or hunting hard. There was a good population this year some of these places had few coon 5 years ago after distemper went through. If you are hunting in low populations then only take a few but don't bad mouth others that are able to harvest more. My family has hunted the same areas for 3 generations and still have coon to run in the summer.

I could care less how many coon anyone takes.

I do know 1 thing, if your main goal is $$$$ You would be FAR better served to start 15 dogs with those 150 coon and sell them, than shoot them to one dog.

It all depends on where you live/hunt. Here I kill between 150-200 a year in season. Yes I have alot of ground to hunt and I will hunt 5-6 nights a week when the snow is not 2 feet deep. We also have a lot of coons and it shows if you look at just about any corn field in the fall that is anywhere close to a woods. You have to kill coons if you want to be allowed to hunt them spots next year. So if i am not killing them the farmer will have someone else in there. More than likley with steel rather than with dogs, and I very rarely shoot more than one out of a tree. So we can kill that many coon and still have good numbers in them same spots come summer for the hunts. Im not going to get rich from the hides but it sure helps pay for some dog food.

Any one that wants to cry about coons that are taken during the regular kill season proubally dosen"t have a dog that can tree rough coons and like those easy ones .If a man want's to hunt them for some extra cash at christmas the let him ,you folks are going to be the end of your own sport one day and that is a fact. I am sure that with 4 kids he works enough over time .
