Dog shaking so hard it can't drink? Help

A Yorkie is shaking so uncontrollably that it can't do anything else. It is also licking it's lips extremely. I need some ideas fast as to what might be causing this. It's my daughter's little dog, anyone have any ideas?

we have a shitzu that does that at tines vet said that she got someage on her her disk in her spine is getting irrated she put her on some pills but if she fumps on and off the couch sometimes she stoves her self up she starts pantig and shaking all over i give her a pain pill for a day or so shes fine if you got any bute for horses break a real small pice of see if that helps but it could be alot of differnt things vet would be your best option good luck with your dog

Thanks for the replies. It's a very young athletic dog, and they are trying to get ahold of a vet right now, but the dog is now having seizures. This is a replacement dog for one that they lost to an accident. She has 4 young children so this had better have a good turn out for their sakes. Thanks again.

give 2 baby asprin cover it so it is still and quiet will have to be put on doggie downers probably typical for these little dogs

She said it is now haveing seizures and pretty bad ones. He has had 2 so far. She said he comes plum up off the floor dureing them. They just got hold of a good vet. She is on the phone with him now. I will let you know.

Well so much for good vet. He is supose to be a good vet but just preached to them about not calling him when he wasn't there usual vet and bothering him on a sunday night. God has to love people like that becouse no body else will.
Now we have a dog looking like it is going to die and a husband ranting at a vet over the phone.

I have a buddy that has one of those little dogs. It also has problems like this. His vet told him it is common for the breed but I cant remember what kind of meds its on.

Oh that Vet is a real jerk!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try the nearest animal hospital, there usually open or have a emergency vet to call on there machine.

I speak coming from working in that very field I hope you find the young dog help and soon could be several reasons for this!

every vet is differnt but in our town we have a p;ace called emercency vet they are open from 6 pm till about 7 the next morning but they charge you about double for a office i lucky me and a buddy i pulled horses with are freinds with a vet we can call her anytime we have a problem she sats come on over i hope everything goes well for yalls dog

Give the dog Karo syrp or something close to that. Low sugar seizures are common in this breed. Get it in the dog as soon as possible. This may buy you a few hours until you can get him to your vet.

Thanks Don I really appreciate it. Before I could call him they got ahold of doctor Kinkade and there on there way over to his office. Sure hope they don't loose the little thing. They had a little min pin and it got into the trash while they were gone and suffocated in a pringles potato chip can while they were gone. Not a pretty sight for a woman and 5 kids to come home to. The oldest kid is 10 year old girl a set of 8 year old girls a 4 year old boy and a 1 year old boy. I could only imagian the scream and cries as each go into the house. So her father in law got this little dog as a replacement.

i dont know, but when i get a high fever, i get the shakes. good she is still drinking liquids. do you have any amoxcycillan??? spelled it wrong. any kind of antibiotics?? keep her cool, hydrated, and hope the vet will be in in the am.

It was epileptic fits and seized for about 2 hours by the time they found a vet and got it there and the vet was able to get it to stop. It was resting last we heard last night but haven't gotten a report today yet. I will let you know when I do.

thats good to hear hope they got some meds that will help its hard cause theses little lap dogs get to be like your kids and its a heartbreaking expernice for little kids so lets hope everything turms out good for the little ones sake take care

Thanks Hillbilly, I just talked to my daughter and she said the vet said it was twitching this morning. Not went into a siezure yet though. He hit it with a lot of phenabarbitol last night among other things. We will be really lucky if it siezeing that long didn't do a lot of damage. All we can do is hope for the best at this point and a vet bill that doesn't break the bank. Not much else you can do when it is the kids little play mate. That little crack head is the only thing I ever saw that could keep up with all 5 kids all day and be happy to do it.

Good news, $ 430.00 later the little guy is chaseing my grand kids around the house again. The vet after all the blood work said it had to of gotten into poison of some kind but all is well now. Thanks to all of yu who helped dureing all of this.
