better not have its nose on the ground
It can meet you off the tree as long as it turns and goes back and don't put its nose to the ground or barks if it does it is minused not scratched

rule dont say nothing about no canopy of no tree !!
what rule says that dog will be minused if off tree, say 12 are 15 feet and puts it nose to ground. not all dogs are belly on wood dogs.
Judges decision, if judge feels you dog is off the tree, you're minused. Tom

This thread has the great makings of a 5 page arguement. Here are the facts:
*There is nothing in the rules that states anything about "canopy of the tree"
*There is also nothing in the rules about dogs "putting their nose on the ground"
*The rules do state that a " Dog should not be minused tree points if he comes back a short distance to meet handler if dog goes back in and trees satisfactorily. Judge should be informed of such peculiarities before hunt." Under rule 17.
*This is purely a judges decision and there are no guidelines for how far a dog can come off the tree.
*If the judge decides that your dog came off the tree, he is minused not scratched, Rule 4(c).

No canopy of the tree and no rule against a dogs nose on the ground. It comes down to honesty. This is the best way to handle this.
Say Dog A was told to meet off the tree. As the judge tell all cast members to follow behind you and as you proceed to the tree and see the dog coming to meet his handler STOP right there and make the dog show the tree it was on. It's as simple as that. If it does handle it! If it doesn't minus it then back away fom th dog.
quote:Yep your right..As a judge I dont have much tolerance for it either..Better break that dog before entering night hunts cause I'm going to minus it..Its ok though..You can can put it to a cast vote. More times than not the cast is going to vote with the judge on a dog thats loose at the tree!

after the cast vote go to master of hounds then file a complaint to the ukc
that is the problem with the sport people make the rules fit them selves instead of learning them and following them..

Or you could just follow what the rule says. Greeting is allowed bud, weather you agree with it or not. While belly up tree dogs are ideal not everyone has one. Sure you can minus a dog everytime it greets and goes right back to the tree, same as you can circle obvious slick trees, plus stars, screw beginner hunters, the sky is the limit when honesty and integrity are throw out.

If that dog comes off the tree and acts like it is trying to smell around you bet your ass im going to minus it....
The way I uderstand it, A dog can meet you a short distance at the tree as long as that dog is losing the cast, at the determined point that the dog is winning, or in danger of winning the cast, the dog will be at said time, Minused.
