Htx ?

Im just wondering if the HTX degrees are holding any weight on a dogs pedigree yet, or do you think they ever will?

Posted by psiskjr on 01-07-2011 11:52 PM:

I would prefer a dog that has a HTX degree more than a night champion. A dog can make night champion and still not be a coon dog. At least one with a HTX title had to tree his own coon.

htx

boy thats the truth

Posted by ronald schultz on 01-08-2011 12:09 AM:

if the rules are all followed that is true!

if they are cheating it doesnt matter , but we have to just pretend its all up and up!!! its all we can do/..... there is going to be people coming on here saying nt.ch. over htx degree but like you said a dog can easily make nt. ch. by tagging along especially with a good handler.....not just my opinion FACTS!

Posted by cbcoonskinner on 01-08-2011 01:05 AM:

Well we all know that there is Night
champion Handlers and then there is Nite
champion Coondogs. Untill you hunt with each you just don't know.
As far as HTX it's the same way all depends on intergrity of the people judginging the dog. A HTX will tell you the dog can tree a coon by itself but wont tell you it's an Alligator at the tree! I would want to hunt with the dog if i was looking at breeding or buying a pup.

I would have to agree, there is going to be cheating but havnt seen much of it with the pass rate so low. I have entered and judged the hunt test and I think I would rather have a HTX behind my dog with the other titles then we may have something to look foward to with coondog reproduction

i just found this out a friend judged him he doesnt hunt ukc so he doesnt care, also i dont hunt hunts anymore and this kind of cheating is one of the reasos, doesnt mean **** to me if a dog is night champion, most probably cant tree a coon by themselves also ukc should have a better system than just one guy judging.

Then why don't you step up and judge and make it worth something?

I will agree with you about the cheating it gets old, I only need two more wins to finish out to a dual grand but I quit the hunts last year due to the cheating. I allways said I wont cheat for mine so I wont cheat for yours. to many people buddying up. mean dogs, and blurred vision. I just think that they have to look at themselves in the morning. sorry about the rambling but that is one thing that irritates me about the hunts.

jack bob

because if i did it they wouldnt have me doing it for long, cause if your **** cant win ,im sure as hell not putting a win on it, did the night hunt thing for 20 years. if ukc would just get trusted people and not just some jack off that will do it ,it would be a lot more honest

With this work schedule I got , I haven't been able to judge any. I think I'm gonna send a few clubs my work schedule and see if I can help out. But , like you said , they might not let me judge for very long. LOL

The problem I see with the HTX...

Most of the competition hunters have no intrest in them, they already know their dog can tree a coon.

The guys that claim to not like the hunts will find out they dont have enough dog to pass an HTX either.

The guys that dont like competition hunts will (amazingly enough) also find fault with the HTX....therefore loosing all credibility in their mind.

One is no better than the other in the sense they're are cheaters in both..Cant make everybody happy..If a lot of people get beat they got screwed some way or another..Most people don't have the dog power it takes to win period..Some people do it for fun others do it for the competition, some for the fellowship and friendship and some people do it so they'll have something to complain about and people to talk about...I know of a lot of people who dog have a dog that I wouldn't put on the end of my leash but they seem to be the first to talk about you or your dog just as soon as you turn your back..To each his own.. I hunt a lot of PKC hunts so most of the time I finish my dogs to NITECH and I'm done hunting them in UKC..

HTX VS NITE HUNTS

I THINK THEY BOTH HAVE UP AND DOWNS. IF THE RULES ARE NOT BENT AND FOLLOWED THEY BOTH CAN BE FUN TO DO. I MYSELF ENJOY HTX HUNTS!!!! I ALL SO ENJOY NITE HUNTS IF THE RULES ARE FOLLOWED. IT TAKES A DOG AND A HONEST JUDGE TO HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!

HTX TEST

I recently completed my third htx test, and enjoyed standing there each time listening to my hound doing what he does.scored according to his actions. There is a different inspector for each test, i doubt if all three will be dishonest. the dog has 1 hour to show you the meat, all the rules of ukc are applied. Dog's that need help to tree a coon won't pass. Slick handling can't help you, it's all about one dog proving he can do is job solo. this test can help in the breeding pen.as far as dishonesty, if your not part of the solution you are the problem to this test. I also believe that ukc should maintain records of how many times the test was taken. example 3/5 3/3 3/8. jmo

I also think a dog should prove itself to tree coons by itself which does not speak well for dogs carrying titles if any body is concerned about that. I hunt leopards and I have 4 That I would like to put them in. We have not thick coons but not thin coons either in my opinion. If I take all four and have an hour apiece, then can I go tree one and get another dog and maybe get all four qualified in an hour? Or a little more time but I don't think it would take four hours even if one was to get in the marsh. Now, I also doubt that any of mine could win a cast, cause they are sure to meet me off the tree or heaven forbid, stand on a tree and tree back in the direction of a winded one. Just wondering? It seems like one dog treeing a coon should be easier than falling off a wagon..

josh

if you are aiming that towards me , you can bring your dog and we will see how much dog power i have, i hunt reguarly with guys here that are big into the pkc hunts im not putting the hunts down , im putting the cheating down, as far as dog power i have all you want, i just dont hunt the hunts any more ,doesnt mean that i still dont have the dog power.

Posted by WVHillBilly on 01-08-2011 02:04 PM:

Its just a way for ukc to get money per dog out of these guys that dont like the hunts for one reason or the other.

Ask yourself this how many people are gonna drive across the country to breed astud that only has a htx degree. Sure some say will but i would say they better want to keep all the pups.

Posted by Donald Shreve on 01-08-2011 02:46 PM:

well jr thats kinda what i was gettin at.

Posted by josh on 01-08-2011 04:28 PM:

Mr. Stall, Not aiming at anyone just general observations. Im sure you have more dogpower than I could ever imagine.

Posted by BIG$BLUES on 01-08-2011 04:33 PM:

I think the htx program could be good but i have hunted with dogs that have it and scratch my head wondering how they got it with that said i think before a dog can become a NTCH they must pass the htx test

yes they should, by by a person that works for ukc someone thats not going to cheat for there friends, until ukc does this they are always going to cheat UKC WAKE UP

Posted by JiM on 01-08-2011 04:58 PM:

You can only cheat yourself. The HTX program doesn't pay anything, it doesn't make anyone or any dog famous, it isn't a competion, you can't win or lose. Cheating effects no one but the person cheating themself. I doubt UKC is very concerned about someone who cheats themself. Why would they? UKC has provided the program, we can use it or not. The money will never be enough to worry UKC about it.
