Wormer

Where can i get a good wormer over the counter. say like a Tractor supply that WORKS. Any specific brand ? Thanks

Posted by ki4qpu on 01-06-2011 04:55 PM:

TSC should have safeguard wormer. What I use is a paste in large syringe. White syringe, green and yellow label. Ask for help cause it's probably locked up, atleast it is here.

If you want to kill every gut worm a dog normally gets, the best and cheapest way to go is Drontal Plus which requires a prescription and that means you go to the vet to get it. But you give them one pill and you're done. It gets them all. The only way to cover hooks, rounds, whips and both tapes with products you buy at TSC is to buy two or more different wormers and give multple doses which ends up costing more than the Drontal. When it is all said and done, you go to the vet, pay the price for one Drontal Plus and you are done cheaper than any other way.

I use Canex. I get a free 6 month supply when I buy my Revolution thru theses guys. They're out of Australia. No perscription needed.

Canex is generic Drontal Plus that can be bought out of Canada. I checked into it and determined I could buy Dronta from the vet about as cheap when you figure shipping costs. But either will get it done.

While I agree that the simplest route would be the Drontal Plus, how in the world could it be cheaper than buying a couple of different wormers over the counter?
I know if I made an appointment with the vet tomorrow, the Drontal is going to be probably $25 and the vet is going to "have" to do a fecal exam and a check up which will put me well over $100. I can buy alot of wormer for $100 so what am I missing?
Is your vet willing to allow you to come in and only charge for the Drontal? If not, what will the total trip cost you? Is it still cheaper?

Yes, I can and have walked into my vets office and ask for a Drontal Plus tab for a 60 pound dog and got without paying for anything but the med. If I couldn't do that I'd be looking for a new vet.

If you can indeed do that, then that is certantly the way to go. I bet if 50 random people around here called 50 random vets, none of them would allow that! What is the point in it requiring a prescription? It is possible that you are good buddies with a vet that would allow that, but most people are not good buddies with a vet in that sorta way.

Posted by JiM on 01-07-2011 02:07 AM:

Well I don't know about buddies, we certainly don't socialize but I have used the same group of vets for many years for horses, mules and dogs and we do have a working relationship. I don't think it is at all rare, atleast not in this area.

I use this too, great stuff, but it is useless on tape worms and not indicated for such.

So, would you be willing to go to your vet and get me two 60lb pills and mail them to me if I paid you a little extra?

Posted by JiM on 01-07-2011 03:15 AM:

Re: .

I have 3 vets in my town, I can walk into anyone and just get the pill. Ive used one vet for 10 years, he also sells me shots and I take them home and give it to the dogs myself. Like JIm said Id be looking for a new vet if I couldnt do these things.

I can sell you Generic Drontal that does not require a RX. Five tabs for 40.00 to your door. Here is the dosages 22lbs 1 tablet, 31-44lbs 1 1/2 tablet and 45-60 lbs 2 1/2 tablets. Most hounds range in the 45-60 lb range so one package of five tabs works out well. Use the extra 2 1/2 tabs for a follow up dose 5 days later. This product is not for lactating mothers or for puppies under 4 weeks old. Pm me if your interested. I except paypal, money orders or a good check.

Thanks for the replies fellow hunters. I think the stuff i was using isn't strong enough and need to switch to something new. I am just wanting to get the most out of what i spend like everyone else. Don't want to go to the vet, up here they won't even look at your dog unless you make the $75 dollar office visit with them. Gets expensive with alot of dogs.

panacure

I use it. I buy it from the vet over the counter. I am satisfied with it. Everybody may not be.

Youre right! The other vet here is a nut case always writing articles on behalf of HSUS. All are not the same thank goodness.
