dissappointed with my last batch of diamond dog food

anyone else have problems with it recently? just seems dry/old/ stale?? dogs dont seem to like it as normally do. wrong time of year to be off their feed, fortunately we butchered a cow and have some extra yummies for them

I switched from feeding Purina over the spring / summer to feeding Diamond 24/20 over the winter. I'm feeding my 3rd bag of it now and I'm not impressed.
The price is right, I can get it easily and the ingredients seemed good, but I'm cleaning up more stool per day than what I used to clean in a week.
We hadn't fed Diamond in nearly 20 years until recently so I couldn't tell you if it has changed.
I've got one more bag to feed and I'll probably switch to something else. Probably Hi-Standard, a little more money and not as easy to get, but I was always happy with it the little bit I've fed it.

The 24/20 is junk I had some back when I feed black gold and had 1 more bag of the 24/20 left so I mixed it. I had a coon in a big pen I built and he would pick the black gold and wouldn't touch the diamond 24/20. I didn't think there 26/18 was bad but 24/20 no thanks.

I have seen dogs on the 24/20 no thanks. That stuff is and always been junk.

I have been feeding Diamond Hi energy 24/20 for 8 months now and it works great for me.. Although there is alot of crap to get up. but the dogs stay fat and slick on 4 cups a day

Posted by on 12-22-2010 04:29 PM:

Geez... Now I know why it is priced the way it is. All they're other foods cost more and are in smaller bags.

I'm done with it after that last bag.

I keep my dogs thinner than most in the summer, at least the ones I'm hunting, but I like to put a little weight on them in the winter. The dogs are all putting on a little weight but they're burning through feed faster than I expect them to, and my male isn't doing well on it at all. His kennel has more waste than the other 4 combined, and those other 4 have more a day than what I used to get a week.

My dogs did better on Purina Dog Chow than this Diamond 24/20.

The bag said New & Improved formula, I'd hate to see what it was like before they "improved" it.

i just swithched to the 24/20 my dogs seem to not "lookin real enthused"when i come out to feed em,i have used ol'roy for as long as i can remember,i hope i didn't make a mistake,by switchin that is.

I never considered Diamond junk feed. 20 years ago we fed it on a regular basis and it was good feed. Just like several other brands, it seems about the time we get used to feeding it for a couple years or couple months, the price goes up and the quality goes down.

I have fed a few bags of some extremely expensive feed. It cost 2-3x more than what I typically pay and the results were worse.

I switched to Purina because it seemed more consistent quality than some of the other brands coonhunter's prefer. But there isn't much consistent about the price, it seems to go up and down constantly. I wish there was a better quality, better priced feed somewhere between the Purina Dog Chow and the Purina Performance.

I'll probably be switching to Hi-Standard or Sportsmix, I have to drive a little further, and pay a little more, but I had no complaints when I've fed both in the past.

Broth you are right diamond is top notch feed. You just happened to pick the one bad feed they have lol.

You wont be disappointed with their green bag (just their plain ole adult feed) nor with their naturals. By far the best feed I have ever used is their extreme athlete. A double handfull a day will make a big dog gain weight if it ain't hunted 3-4 nights per week. Its good stuff.

The only Diamond feed I have ever fed is the Extreme Athlete and I only feed it to one dog, my pregnant bitch who is now nurseing pups. We also fed it our Kate pup last summer while prepareing for the World Hunt which involved every nite training with 3 different handlers. I think it is the best food I have ever fed for stessed dogs. I don't have any experience or opinion on the other Diamond feeds and don't expect to in the future.

That's good to here. I can get the Diamond fairly easy. Last time I was up there, I wasn't going to get the 24/20. I went up and down the isles looking at all other options, the the Diamond 24/20 seemed to be the best buy, 50lb bag, in my price range. We used to feed the Diamond Green Bag (26/18 I think). It was the same price as the 24/20 but the bag was 10lbs lighter. The Diamond Extreme Athlete must have been priced high enough I didn't look at it. Diamond had a Lamb & Rice I gave some thought to as well, again a little higher price in a smaller bag.

Now if I can just have my Dad paying his share of the feed bill for his 2 dogs in the kennel, I could expand my options more.

Brogy, some places sell the yellow and green bag in 40lbs only -- I know Tractor Supply does -- but they are made in the 50lbs bags too......and most times, those seling the 40lb bags are more expensive than the places selling the 50lb bags.

Dissappointed with FEED!

I usually only feed PRIDE OR SEXTON BROTHERS (Purina if I have puppies), I had some problems with my last 2 bags of PRIDE 24/20, so I switched to SEXTON BROTHERS Meat Based 24/18 feed (White Bag), and my dogs seem to like it. Alot of cleaning though!! My buddy had a couple bags of Diamond's that was bad but must have just been bad luck, he still uses it. I'd say theres a few bad bags in all brands.

if you can get it the enhanced professional athlete is a really good feed and is real affordable and the native brand feed is also good feed and both of these are corn free

Posted by recon on 12-22-2010 09:08 PM:

I have switched to Victor dog feed. All natural, no corn, wheat or soy. Very little clean up and takes a lot less per dog. Getting it for $22 a bag.

Jim, no dealers up that way? We have one in Ohio and he's branching out to local feed places. Dogs hunted all night every night on that stuff and still look great! Wade has a good thing going with it.

If you guys get a chance go to TSC (tractor supply) and try the Retriever (blue bag) 27/15 dog food. Its 18.99 or 19.99 for 50#...
I have fed this for 2 years now and it is the best stuff going in my opinion.....

we have been feeding diamond naturals and the dogs eat it right up and there looking good on it, anybody that says sportmix is better is crazy . look at the first ingredient it is corn, if you feed the diamond maintenance then yes it is junk.
