I am going to say Clover. Simply because I have a clover pup from JJ Jackson and he called one of its ears "calico". Not sure how far back though.

The calico ear in the Clover dogs goes back to Bozo. Where you have to go behind him to find it beats me.

My guess would be Bozo and beyond that who knows.

It does seem like a lot of the real old pics from 30 to 40 years ago shows some calico and white eared dogs. Was more common back then than it is now I would say.

Good point, I see a lot of people overlooking that point when talking about Harry. He is heavy Bozo bred and has some clover as well.

This pup doesn't have an ounce of Clover in him... Doesn't go back to Bozo either.. Had 2 in this litter that had Calico ears.. I've seen the grandsire to these pups throw it also..

You guys are talking about the wrong Harry. I'm talking about the first Harry dog that was off of Bozo.

If I was gunna get a walker i'd want an ear like that but with a black blanketback with ALL black outlined with red... lol that'd be a pretty hound.

I read somewhere some time ago that the calico ear came from a strain of running walker foxhound of many years ago. Memory fails me as to which it was.

He looks like he caught a parked car.

Bluedogman, Big Stride was a treeing walker, heavy inbred if I remember right. He was studded out and advertised in Full Cry mag. back in the late 70's or early 80's.

I've had Heavy house and Yadkin river bred dogs for years, the calico ears pop up from time to time, most of the old yadkin river stuff produced it. Almost every litter I raise has a few with white tips on the ears but they usually grow over before they get very old.

Thanks.. most likely that is the one he referred to. I was not aware of that one but there is a 'Big Stride' in foxhound history long before the time of the most recent one you mentioned.
