First week of Maine bear season 2010

This was the first bear for me of this season. The dogs cold trailed for about a mile or so and then jumped the bear and treed it fairly quickly. It took us about an hour to walk to the tree. We latter found out that we could of driven almost right up to the tree but the road that they were treed beside didn't show up on the garmin.lol

The dogs were Willie,9 years old, Sissie (my wife named her lol) Duke and Black, almost 3 year old littermates, and Bonnie 2 years old. The old man Rooster,12 years old finaly made it to the tree after it was all over and we had the bear dressed out.lol

The happy hunter and his bear.

They should be some awesome pups Sisie is the best young female I've probable ever had and Willie is right up there with the best dogs I've ever owned and he is the best cat dog that I have owned.

Scott or Larry i was wondering if you guys heard about Ryan Shepard getting attacked last week around Bangor. My neighbor and hunting friend was the guy that got the bear off of him. They were hunting together. I wasnt sure if you knew the guy or not.

I had a ruff week last week,Willie got tore up and we lost a couple days because of rain. I'm glad this week went a little differant. Rooster started the track yesterday mourning and went about amile and a half before I could get any dogs into him. Iturned in Duke Bonnie and Alley. They caught Rooster and passed him and went a couple more miles and Rooster and Alley got behind and I could tell that Bonnie and Duke were close to the bear. I turned in Big Black and Sissie,They tore off up over the mountain and treed. I waited for Rooster and Alley to show up and grabbed them and drove around the mountain. We were in luck because they were only 500yds up the mountain because my hunter has MS. He made it up there but he was exausted and had to sit down about 50 ft from the tree.We decided to walk in and help keep the bear in the tree.We took a picture of it and started to hook back dog's and he started coming down.I ran at the tree and hollered but he bailed any way.He ran about 50ft and the dogs put him back up. This time we took him with us into the tree and sarted grabbing dogs but he bailed again. He ran about 100yds and treed again. We new our luck was going to run out and our hunter was running out of steam as well, but this time he was able to get to the tree and close the deal. 175lb boar

Yeah,Dustin it was almost painfull to watch him struggle so hard to get to the tree. He was so determined to get there that he would of crawled if he had to. He asked me if I would take him again next year and I said that I would. How could I say no to anyone who wants it that bad?

My hunters cancelled on me this week but I went out today because I had a day hunter. The bait was hit at 8:25 last night so the track was 10 hrs old. Rooster started working it out so I turned Willie in. About a mile latter They crossed a road so I turned in Bonnie and Duke and picked up Rooster because he was already a ways behind. We ended up seeing the bear 3 times, the first time the hunter missed, the second time we didn't get out in time to get a shot and the 3rd time he dumped him right beside the road. The dogs on the bear at the end were Willie,Bonnie, Duke and Alley.

The hunter and his bear,215lb boar

Willie,Bonnie, Alley and Duke.
