Flagtail walker?

My Grandfather use to talk to me about flagtail walkers when we hunted together in my early childhood (70's). I never cared to ask what breeding the were from. Has anyone heard of these and have info?

Here is a link 2 the 2010 AKC world CH he has got a tail on him.
LOOK how long the hair is where his hand is where it goes over his pointer.

You'll see a flag now and then in the Wild/Lone Pine strain.

clear things up

the flag is alot of hair on the bottom of the tail makes it look like a flag. Right?

Posted by Bluedogman on 04-05-2010 02:31 PM:

I thought it was a brush at the top of the tail. Like a Setter Bird Dog!

I HATE a flag tail hound....I'm not stuck on looks in a dog but those flag tails I just dont like at all.

Posted by COYOTE-HUNTER on 04-05-2010 06:33 PM:

i always thought it was a throwback from the old foxhounds. alot of my foxhounds and foxhounds in general have flag tails.

The first thing I thought of was Bellar's Indiana Shep also. I think it was the German Shepard in him though that gave him the flag tail. Neat question.

my dog has a flag tail. Hes wipeout and stylish bred. He got it from his sire I beleive cause I talked to a guy that hunted with him and he said thats how he got his name "Wipeout Fuzzy" because of his fuzzy look and my dog kinda has that but he does have a flag tail.

Heavy hair and a flag tail was a trademark of Ganns Finisher.

My female's paternal granddam was bred pretty heavy on Wagnor's Mr. Quick...

She doesn't have a flag tail, but I sure like my dog

Look at some of the old line running walker Fox hounds lots of flags . Our tree hounds had to come from somewhere.

Posted by chip johnson on 12-11-2013 03:19 PM:

out of five pups this is the only one that had longer hair. I think he gets it from finley river blood

Posted by rthompson on 12-11-2013 03:26 PM:

finley river dan look up a pic.

Posted by chip johnson on 12-11-2013 03:53 PM:

beanblossum buck also had the flag tail, he is finley river bred too

Posted by mhardy on 12-11-2013 04:31 PM:

these flag tail dogs were probably the result of "CROSSBREEDING"and they were WINNERS,,,,,,,,so that means that some of you are really hunting crossbred dogs and don`t know it........just some food for thought.?????
