Htx ?

The rules say you hunt for an hour. Do you hunt for an hour no matter how many coon you tree?
Oh one more. Do the tests have to be posted in the Coon hound mag. ?

Yes, Grady you hunt for one hour regardless of how many coon are treed. The exception to hunting less than an hour in a Hunt Test is when a dog has recieved two faults. If the dog has two faults you may as well pick him up because there is no chance of a "pass" regardless of how much good or how many coons may have previously been scored.

Thanks Allen, You wouldn't happen to know if the HTX tests have to be listed in the COONHOUND mag. would you?

Currently the requirement is that they be listed on the website at least 30 days in advance. For those clubs that are on the ball and schedule more than 30 days in advance, I will list their upcoming hunt test in the magazine for them. So just to be clear, the website list is complete and the magazine list is partial. At this time.

okie, i have been trying hard to get my club to honor this HTX hunt! this tells alot about that particular hound! (individually) yep, the hound has 1 hour to hunt! it has 1 hour to track and tree a coon and prove itself as such! it has 1 hour to pass this test period! it can strike track in 5 minutes or less, tree within 15 minutes, and show meat in the tree! it now has 45 minutes left to make enough mistakes to fail out or keep on going to pass all the way around!

Good for you, I think we should all try to get our clubs to hold more tests. I think it shows you more about a dog than putting them in a hunt. Of course the hunt shows you some differant stuff but with out the things the tests show what the dog has to show at the hunt doesn't matter much. Like doing it by themselves and babbleing instead of helping find the coon. LOL
See how many of these guys with real dogs can REALLY find a coon. lol
That real dog line allways gets me since nobodys idea of a real dog is the same. LOL

I have a question the rules say that the dog has to bark once every 8 min on track but under faults it says that it is not considered a fault. I’m I just confused or missing something? If it is not a fault then what do you do?

C) Quit Track - When it's obvious that a dog has quit a track that he was open on and attempting to
work he will be faulted. Failure to open for 8 minutes will be considered quitting.

When I look it up it says: C) Quit Track - When it's obvious that a dog has quit a track that he was open on and attempting to work he will be faulted. Failure to open for 8 minutes will NOT be considered quitting.

Is it a typo?

I like the regular hunts, but I do see where these htx hunts, might be the future of alot of night hunts! These hunts seem like they might be easy, but if coon are not moving, it may not be that easy to do. I COMMEND U.K.C. FOR COMING UP WITH THESE HUNTS! I hope they really take off and folks start coming back out to the clubs. Club numbers are way down compared to lets say 15 yrs. ago. I hope that alot of folks will also start looking at dogs that pass these tests for there breeding programs. You know I might come more breeding to a dog that has passed these tests now adays than a Gr. Nt. degree. Just food for thought! But I do really believe this might be the future for clubs.

I know I would come closer to breeding to a dog that had past a test than one that just had a gr. ch. if that is all I had to go on.

What is keeping the clubs from putting on the tests? Maybe they need to charge more or maybe we need to be able to do it with out the club being invloved.
Can you get a judge and just go do it on your own? Taht might be a good way to go about it. Just get 2-4 guys that want to take a test and call a judge, set up a time that is good for all and go for it. All go together and pay the judge.

I ask the same question the other day. You have to keep going. The dog has to hunt for an hour.
