Mark McGwire Admits Steroid Use

He finally admits what was known -- even admits even using the year he broke the home run record in 1998.

Guess he realizes since the Hall won;t be calling, might as well as admit to it since he's coming back into the league this season as a hitting coach.

Time for Bonds to come clean..........Sosa got caught with corked bats already when he played, wonder if juice was running in his system in the himerun years too?

Pete Rose won't be voted into the bb hall of fame...which i believe he should be in.

theses knotheads you speak of should be banned from any and everything to do with major league baseball.

Man not me. I go to see them hit the long ball. If they are so stupid that they want to do this to them selves it is on them. I still like seeing the long ball. I would bet through the years that a good many of our so called heros in sports were juiced up. All sports, not just baseball. That is why I take it all with a grain of salt and watch it for what it is, entertainment.

Yep I am with you. The only difference is some do the illegal ones and the others do the all natural ones. It is same stuff just differant form pretty much. We are all getting it in our food these days. I look at it likt a boxer. If they want to sell there health to the highest bidder let them. Isn't that what all the hard working labor force do in a way.
I think this country puts way to much importants one sports. We were talking about why no respect in kids these days and I think sports has a lot to do with it. WIN WIN WIN no spotsmanship tought at all anymore. Go to a football game for 8 year olds. Listen to what they get told. They are tought win at all costs from day one. To a man that was brought up were the bigest trophy of the season was for sportsmanship it is sad.

i think your right buck shot sosa was takin drugs to i would bet. they will do anything for a big pay check i quess.

admitted

So they all admit they are taking drugs but at the time they set the records etc. it got all of us excited!!!
What about the little helpers in food that dog people give their dogs to perform better???
Any different???

Posted by Buckshot on 01-12-2010 02:16 AM:

Little helper in dog food?

I can't speak for others, but I don't "juice" my dogs on illegal drugs.

I do have a hound with hip dysplasia that I give a hip and joint supplement treat with glucosamine............It's a treat that can be bought at most pet stores...........even tractor supply.

Not sure of the analogy of your trying to compare.............but don't think comparing an athlete taking a banned substance to get the extra in cheating can be compared to giving our dogs legal supplements that we all have access too.

Me giving my dog a supplement while you don't is like an athlete who weight trains while another athlete chooses not to weight train.............You could have gave your dog a supplement and the athlete could have weight trained.............that is on you guys. You both had the same opportunity but did nothing with it.

I'll be the first to admit, the 1998 homerun chase was exciting..........too bad it didn't happen with athletes that were natural.

Maris record stood all those years and so far the only ones to catch and pass Maris's record have been tied to steroids.

If people are Juicing dogs to perform what SHOULD be NATURAL Ability. The dogs should be ripped of all titles and the owners banned from the registry for life.

There's a difference between juicing a dog and training it right, feeding it right, and giving it the proper supplements for its body to recover and perform at its OPTIMAL level.

It's a little more complicated than throwin some Ole Roy in the dish every night IF you want your dog to perform.

Ask anyone on here that's run a dog hard in the hunts right. They are on a strict schedule. All the way from the food dish to the woods.

Technology is much better today than in Maris's time and the other old time greats. Who is to say they didnt take a few enhanceing products.

LOL, if you look at Maris stats, hard to think and believe he was using performance enhancing drugs.....Bonds, McGwire, Sosa, and etc.... stats along with major physical changes is easy to see.

Posted by RedMan on 01-12-2010 04:00 AM:

Dang, you mean them forearms didnt come from eatin spinach. Actually I have been waiting for the come clean moment and its not at all suprising but what is suprising is that a .230 lifetime hitter is a major league hitting coach. Seems like 'ol Tony trying to help Mr Mark out in the eyes of HOF voters and fans.

As for Bonds, if he never juiced up then he needs to have a ct scan cause no adults head should grow 4 helmet sizes at adulthood especially during a 1 1/2 yr period.

We should just have the ones that didn't use roids start coming out.

I'd rather go watch a 1 to 0 game than 10-9 game full of juiced players having roid rages.

Have to remember it wasnt just the hitters it was pitchers and everyone else that was using the roids it was the era of the roids, so in a sense it was still pretty much a level playing field for the most part because they were all using roids. It may make you hut farther, but you still have to be skilled enough to get the wood on the leather.

Posted by GRAVEDIGGER on 01-12-2010 06:13 AM:

Without the 'roids era baseball would have needed a bailout from congress! After the last strike in '94 (I believe) baseball was close to being down and out.

PED's have been around for a long, long time in all sports. Baseball just happened to be the last major sport where it finally became an issue. Funny thing is Mark McGuire started it all by leaving some steroid precursor bottles exposed in his locker during an interview and a reporter picked up on it! Then, his "bash brother" Canseco let it all hang out there with his book.

LOL...if anyone is shocked by any of it.....here's your sign....

REMEMBER THESE TWO TOP REASONS FOR THE SURPLUS OF
LONGBALLS:

must be baseball's are wound tighter

expansion must have weakened the pitching

Bud Selig just sat by and *wink, *wink...voila baseball had the $$$ flowing in and the stands were getting full again!

I don't think PED's were banned in baseball until the mid 2000's.
Do a search for us Buckshot.

I believe that what they did were WRONG but I also put the blame on MLB and its OWNERS,when attendance was dropping they changed the balls to BOUNCE of the bats, then they allowed owners to build these HITTER FRIENDLY stadiums to give the game MORE excitment. The players were allowed to take these drugs and some did but the LEAGUE didn't start biting their nails until they started to break the heros of "yesterday's" records, then it started to go down the drain from there. My thing is how do you ban Pete Rose for life with all you let pass these days.I hope they send Pete to the Hall behind all this, and I'm going to take up for the players a lil bit here....It takes a little more then steroids to hit a 99mph slider coming in on your ankles.

I can't find when they were actually banned in baseball, but seems they were not tested for or were over looked. Due to the Mitchell Report in 2005 a policy was enacted in Spring of 2006.

It was amazing going to Busch Stadium with 20,000 other fans to watch McGwire take batting practice.

I'm not advocating steroid use, but you are right. It was amazing to watch McGwire in '98 at Busch Stadium. I'll never forget sitting behind home plate and watching him hit one "over the barn".

Posted by GRAVEDIGGER on 01-12-2010 07:21 PM:

LOL...I do believe they are illegal....unless you have a valid prescription. And it's true that there never was any PED testing in baseball prior to this whole ongoing fiasco.

The only testing done was for drugs and alcohol. The PED's were very rampant in all of baseball. All the way down to the bottom of the minors. I had teammates who were "juiced". The organization that I was with had this response, "If you are going to do steroids, then you need to let the trainers help you cycle properly."

LOL, marijuana is illegal too.........but in some place you can have a prescription to legally use it.

I would think that the possession or sale of any controlled substance is a felony. I guess if you want to split hairs we should look up statutes or something....lol......

Drug user is a drug user.....coke, smack, crack, roids.
