No Youth Left Behind

FIRST OFF LET ME START BY SAYING THANKS TO UKC FOR SANCTIONING KIDS WORLD. WE HAVE GOTTEN A SMALL PROBLEM THAT I THINK UKC CAN HELP US WITH. WE HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT ALL KIDS DO NOT HAVE A REG. UKC DOG. WOULD IT BE A GOOD IDEA FOR UKC TO GIVE A YOUTH A FREE SINGLE REGISTRATION TO A YOUTH WHO DOES NOT HAVE A UKC REGISTERED DOG. MUST ENTER AND COMPETE ONE REGISTRATION PER CHILD. THEN WE CAN SAY NO YOUTH LEFT BEHIND. GIVE US YOUR OPINION. I HOPE WE CAN HEAR FRON UKC HOW ABOUT IT JED.

Dog should have to be registered in the "youths" name only. No adults co-owners so some people dont abuse it and take advantage.

registration

Yes it should be in the youths name and be hunted at kids world thank for the reply. Waiting to hear from UKC.

Posted by Lakeland Kennel on 01-07-2010 02:54 PM:

Thank you Elwood for doing so much for the youth. I would bet most kids have a registered beagle but I agree, no kid should be left behind if they don't.

Maybe a Trust Fund could be set up that folks could donate to help the kids.

That's a great idea. I like Scott also think that people would take advantage so there should be stirpulations. Like you said they should have to hunt it at the Kids World to be eligible and it should be in a youths name only. This is an awesome idea.

Elwood

You and I talked on the phone about this at the end of last week for the first time and I told you that it involves more people than just myself and that we were going to need to have a meeting on this topic as soon as possible and that when we did I would give you a call back and let you know what the outcome was. Apparently I was not clear enough. When we are able to discuss this and reach a decision you will be notified.

Jed --has it been brought up that youth wins an titles should be designated as such, to seporate them from open titles ?

Posted by Jed Nichols on 01-07-2010 05:36 PM:

Albert,

It has been brought up but we have a set of youth rules in place that we are currently using.

I am thankfull that UKC does so much for children because they are the future of our sport. Among all registries UKC has by far the most diversified and extensive youth programs. I do not believe any child should be eliminated from the event because they do not have the $ for the registration. I don't expect that would be a common thing to happen. Do you know how many children have been left out because of the reg fee? However, if the situation did arrise we should have a plan to make sure the child is not left out. I do not believe UKC should be giving away single registrations at youth events as that will likely be abused. Is there a better solution to NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND?

Posted by GOTCHA BEAGLES on 01-07-2010 11:21 PM:

kids world

We had 15 calls of youths wanting to hunt a AKC dog in this event. We had no choice but turn them away.

Posted by Stony Branch on 01-07-2010 11:47 PM:

Im all for helping the youth because they are the future of the sport but this sounds like something that could be abused by some adults. I find it hard to believe the adults can afford a dog and the cost to get to the hunt but cant afford a $18 registration fee.
I hate to say this but I kinda agree with Dave Haugh.....The club should set up a fund on thier own and distribute the money for registration themselves. JMO!

Posted by Lakeland Kennel on 01-08-2010 01:31 AM:

Elwood, post an address and Frances Gail and I will donate $20. We trust your judgement on seeing that it get used by kids that need it. We certainly have seen your work with the kids.

If it was a fun hunt it wouldn't matter, now would it.
UKC has to make enough money to say in business, overhead is not free. I'm all for the kids, don't get me wrong, But If you want titles your should have to pay for it. If you want no kid left behind, make it fun hunt, or setup a fund. Just my 2 cents.

Maybe UKC could offer a ONE day single registration only good for the youth hunt that day. This would encourage kids to try it out and welcome people to our sport. Stipulations could be that championship points will not be awarded to the hound. If approved this may be able to be handled at the club level with ease.

hi my name shawn watson me and my son came to kids world last year we had fun seemed like every one was having fun i know it isnt cheap to hunt a dog in hunts thats why i only hunt one dog at a time if there is any kids in ohio around coshocton licking or knox that want to go to kids world this year and don't have a dog get ahold of me and I will try to help out by letting another child hunt one of my dogs. give me a call and we could talk about this more because my son is going to defend his title he won last year with my male dog redneck little joker, he made him champion and later on I made him bench champion. I am offering this to help kids out it's a really fun time and it could help the kids that want to go to college. thanks shawn watson 740-327-1525.

youth

I agree with what has been said. I can't imagine that anyone who owns an AKC dog and can afford to come to the hunt enter dog and gas can't afford to single reg. their dog.
So basically if there were about 22 entries last year there would have been 15 more entries if registration was free? I don't know sounds a little crazy. Why not open entries to all kids and have fun?

kids world

In my opinion, Due away with the championship points for the kids world. Kids don't care about titles on dogs and such. I know my daughter and I had a blast together last year it was way more than titles it was about her big smile when she recieved that trophey, and how excited she was to be away with dad without her two younger siblings. It was great one on one time,we went to the movies, swam in the hotel, went to texas roadhouse twice. I think all kids should be able to experiance this great hunt,so if you do away with the championship points All KIDS would be able to hunt.
