water

I just add water to the kibble . Or with raw. Kind of make a stew for the dogs. I heat the water in a kettle for the kibble and eggs.
Raw everything goes into a pot on the stove.

I bought two heated water buckers, the three gallow types a couple years ago, with the non chew cords. They were not as non chew as I had hoped. I came home one afternoon to find both chewed in half, at the base of the bucket. Go figure. I was out about $45. There was not enough left to replace with a new cord.

yep me too!

Once in the morning, once when I get home from work and once before bed.

When it's that cold they don't drink much anyway.

i water them morning, afternoon, and night and its working okay for me.

With the heated water bowls, has anyone had a dog chew the cord or do you keep it out of the kennel? i know some of my dogs drag their bowls around and chew on them.. just wasn't sure what would happen if they got the cord. Thanks

There is a thread on the REDBONE section on what to do about freezing water...

Says to use 1 can of evaporated milk to a five gal bucket of water. Says it greatly reduces the freezing water.

I tried it this morning and the dogs liked it so much they drank it all up. This afternoon, I floated their dry feed in a warm mixture of it.

Now I have no idea if it really kept it from freezing, because they kept drinking it all up. I do know they all got plenty and are full and quiet. I have another bucket waiting for when the boys get home. That should keep em all tucked in until morning anyway.

I would say that the milk just made the water taste good so they drank it up fast enough that it doesn't have time to freeze. Which eliminates wondering if they got enough to drink before it froze up again.

I use the bucket de-icer someone else posted above. Just run the cord through a piece of pipe (I use heavy-duty pvc) and make sure the cord exits the pipe high enough from the ground that the dog can't reach it. Attach the bucket and pipe to the kennel wall with snaps or wire or whatever.
