-- Got a breeding question??? Don't know the answer. (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=321364)
Got a breeding question??? Don't know the answer.
I bred a female this past Thursday. Tonight when I got home from church she was out of her kennel, with my german shepherd on her trail....tail!!! Somehow the german shepherd got the door on the back of her house open, and she came out and she is still ready. There's no doubt, they got hooked up. I'm sure someone's had this to happen before. Will the dog that caught her first sire the pups, or will they be half german/half bluetick???? Is there anything I can do????? I need some input from someone that knows more about it than I do.
HALP!!!!

It spossible to have pups from one of the sires or a few from each sire.
Your probably going to have to dna the pus...$$$ (ouch)
Most likely part of the pups will be sired by the dog you want, part of them will be sired by the German Shepard. There's a chance it's one or the other, but most likely they both will have some sired.
Only one sperm can fertilize the egg so each pup will either be what you want or half German Shepard.
You can DNA the pups and see for sure which ones are which.
People do it intentionally all the time, have dual sired litters getting pups from two different studs in the same litter, but then they have to DNA every pup to see which is which.

Craig. I have heard of folks breeding females to two diff males to get what I would call two litters in one. But the only way to tell what the sire was is to dna each pup. Which can run into some money in a hurry. But beings yours might be german sheppard cross. I dont know. Sounds like your luck is about like mine.

Whatever you do, don't get her the "morning after" shot. Had to spay one because of that. I guess they would be called... German Coonhounds.

craig
Natural processes says the breeding you made might have covered all fertile eggs. If this case is not true, the german shepherd probably got the rest.
It is only possible one live sperm should enter each fertile egg. After this occasion, the egg will strengthen or grow harder that no other sperm can make an entrance. Each pup will be sired by one or the other. There will be no merger between sperm from both males.
thats about all you can do at this point ^
oh no!
man that sucks ...
pretty much what others have said, could have pups from both sires or one or the other.

Sorry about your bad luck. That sucks, I know, I had a Plott female get bred by a roaming Romeo shepherd and all the pups looked like Plotts. Since I hadn't bred her to anything else, I knew they were mutts. We put them down, the world does not need more mutts.
You might get lucky and be able to tell when they are born or shortly after which pup belongs to which male. If it were me, I'd go ahead and breed her everyday she will stand to the bluetick and hope that when she drops her eggs, more of his sperm will be present then the shepherds. KEEP HER IN A STEEL BOX AND WATCH HER EVERY MINUTE, LOL. Those male dogs are determined little suckers. Be prepared for the DNA thing, though, or just not register them and breed her next time.

The g.s. has been going crazy ever since she came in. My kennel is off the ground, and I didn't think it was possible for anything to go wrong. It is amazing what a 130 lb. german shepherd can do once he sets his mind to it.
These post have been enlightening. Learned some things I didn't know. Thanks so much for your input. I'm going to breed her again to the blue dog, and just wait and see. It shouldn't be a problem, detecting the mutts from the blueticks.
Does anyone have an idea as to how much it would cost to get a pup dna'd?????
Again, Thanks for your input. You guys are the bestiss!

Maybe...they're just real good friends and he was following her around to protect her integrity??
And you will get a nice litter of purebred pups and live happily ever after!!

If you go with the dna I've heard they are less expensive when bought first hand at one of the big hunts from UKC.
Grand American, Winter Classic, etc.. Call to UKC would be the best bet to cover everything.
On the bright side there may be a big market for Blue Shepards.
dna
you can get it done a good bit cheaper through other companies and if the male bluetick is already dna'ed it should only cost ten dollars to have him read...only have to dna the pups that look like blueticks the rest will tell on therselves

You can indeed have pups in the same litter sired by two different males. No they will not be cross breeds. And with DNA to prove parentage you can register the pure breds as you normally would.

if these pups are born colored like blueticks i seeno reason for dna when a ticked hound crosses with a german shepherd most of the pups will be brown black saddled or black i know a guy that intentionaly breeds his bluetick to a shepherd for yote dogs and never did she produce other than pure black or brown black saddled she has had pups three times each with a differant male. i know for sure a redtick mated to a lab produces solid colored pups in my case she was confined 6 days before and six days after being bred to a redtick and what a surprise when she had 8 pure black pups they were so nice i found homes for the whole litter in one day the last one left two guys were bidding on then one guy put a hundred dollar bill in my pocket to this day 3 i know of look like pure labs two of the males are over a hundred pounds and what noses on them
