Game Warden Run In.

Anyone been popped by a game warden yet. My son and I hunted a big timber for 4 hrs. and while walking out a flash light hit us, so and so from the DNR wants to check us out. The three dogs we were hunting didn't think much of the suprise, luckily they were on leashes. LOL. Come to find out he sat in the timber and listened to us for 3 and 1/2 hours. Couldn't say we were spotlighting by all the tracking and treeing but just wanted to check us for a fur harvesters license.

He's a younger man and I bet he about pissed his pants when those 3 dogs about tore our arms off when he hit his light.L, O, L.

Not since , I set the younger game warden straight. He parked his truck in my gate to my pasture. When I came out , I got my tractor and chain and pulled it across the road to my barn lot. Waited on him, when he came out he was mad as a wet hen. I told him listen up , you park your truck in my gate again , I would call the sheriff to impound the parked truck on my property and charge him with trespassing as he didn't have written permission to be on my property. Not an minute's trouble since

I for one am glad to see the game warden. We have a couple of decent guys around here that look out for our wildlife resources. I have been checked once or twice when deer hunting, never been ran into when coon hunting though.

My personal feeling is that if they can catch someone breaking the law, more power to them! They are more than welcome to park on my land and catch every last person that is abusing or breaking the wildlife laws. On a side note, Game Wardens have a pretty extensive training and dealings with people with guns and dogs. It probably did not bother him as bad as it would bother someone never put in that situation.

They may not need permission but they shouldn't be able to block a gate. I can't park in a gate to a conservation owned feild.

was checked on a wildlife management area during a UKC hunt in S.C. one of the biggest men i ever saw, but the nicest warden i have ever encountered also.looked at the state permit, and told us to have a great time.

A GW doesn't need permission to be on someone's land. If he was a seasoned wardon, he would have gotten you for messing with an official vechicle and probably some other stuff.

I don't see what the deal is with people not liking game wardons. For the most part, they are hunters themselves. If you aren't doing anything wrong, there shouldn't be a problem.

I have hunted a good bit for the last 22 years. I have seen 2 wardens, 1 time and it was a deputy waiting for me at my car in late bow season because I was parked across the street from some delusional women who said you could not hunt in the county we were in. They were just appeasing her.

The second time we were kids and the warden was hunting and was waiting for us at the truck. We were all trespassing bowhunting somewhere that changed hands and we kept going. He checked us, but he was real nice especially since my buddy asked "whe the heck are you and asked for ID". Those were my only run ins. I have no problem with the law as long as they don't treat me like a criminal when I am doing nothing wrong.

I've been checked once in 31 years of coon hunting. If your not breaking the law you don't have to worry about them

Our deer hunting party was checked on Sunday by CO Mitch Boyum. Mitch has checked me 3 times in the last 5 years. Some of my cousins said in 30 years of hunting they had never been checked. I have nothing but great things to say about CO Boyum. When he approaches you he always professional and does his job as he should, once everything checks out okay he will spends a few minutes visiting about anything and everything regarding the outdoors.
He is open to any ideas and discussions regarding hounds and coonhunting and any issues that may arise.
He is 1st Class IMO. If more Wardens were like CO Boyum, hunter - warden relations would be improved. A recently retired CO in our area was very different, treated almost everyone like a criminal and even when he discovered everything was legal, he wouldn't take 1 minute of his time to have a conversation.
Personally, I enjoy seeing our Game Warden. He is just another hunter / fisherman out there making sure his peers are doing everything legal.

I fully agree, but then there are some, or i should say one, down here that is just so arrogant in his way of doing his job, the he gives you a bad taste. There is something wrong when they check you 3 times, all within about a 4 hour period. The real sad thing is he is a supv. ad the others have to do as he tells him. This one un-named warden has no friends in our area, and that reaches into his enforcement colleges also. As a whole, they, the GA DNR, have some very fine men and women, who do a thank-less job.

It must be my year, never been checked by wardens before and then twice this year. Same state game land I've always hunted.

Both times asked what I was doing and when I said "I'm coon hunting" that seemed to raise their suspicions to check my license and vehicle. Both wardens were surprised I had a dog. One warden had no idea what was up when he asked about my gun and I told him there is no gun in my vehicle. The other one asked me if that is actually a coon hound in my rig.

Maybe my wardens need to attend a coon hunting orientation class.

Good Wardens are hard to find. Our local a younger fellow wanted to be in forestry for the state, did not get it so went into the law enforcement side as a warden. Nope he does not hunt and is a tree huger.

Caught him on my leased land with a gps marking my stands for deer hunting. That got me hot ASAP and called the local sheriff for a show down.

He was doing it so he could come striaght in and check folks and make it easier on himself ??

Have since moved those stands, and yes he has drove his truck right up to stands on field edges to check folks during the hunting time ??

In his first year he had over 800 complaints, lost over 50% of his court cases and YES he is still a warden ?? Only in Illinois !!!

I've got a retired GW just over a mile from me and we hunt, golf and bowl together. When he was on active duty with the state, he was tough but fair and used his head. Now that is the kind of GW you want and need.

Had a run in with one last year. I was hunting and dogs trailed and treed across the road and got on someone I didn't have permission on so I quickly ran in and got them out, well while I'm walking out a car comes down the road and stops and then drives on down the road. I walk on out and load up and drive 30 minutes home and get in bed and the door bell rings and rings and rings so I go to the door and open it and bam MR. GW. I step outside and ask him what the heck he is ringing my door bell at 11:30 at night and he asks me if I was hunting tonight, I said yes and he said you were trespassing and I asured him I wasn't.lol . I asked him how did he know if I was trespassing, he said someone seen my truck parked on the side of the gravel road and I didn't have permission there, so I told him last I checked it wasn't illegal to park on a gravel road and I asked did they see or hear me, and he said no, so I said as far as I'm concerned he was just harassing me and he wasted his time coming to my house at 11:30 in the morning to just talk to me. I showed him on the plat map 5 different land owners that I had pemission to hunt in the area and then he decided to tell me that coon hunters think they can go where they want and he told me coonhunters should really think about quitting hunting in this county because its just getting too populated. I said I didn't think I would ever hear a CA tell someone they should really think about quit hunting, I think he knew he put his foot in his mouth after he said it. So I asked him if he was going to write me a ticket for something that he didn't know if I did or not and he said No and said fine then I'm going to bed and told him next time he could just wait until the next day and call me if all he wanted to do is talk to me. I don't think he liked that very much. lol

I've only met up with one game warden in 50 almost 51 years.Itwas on a Sunday when me and a buddy was checking out a game lands when I lived in NC.All he did was visit with us for awhile and he also told us the best places on that games lands to coon hunt.as well as where he had been seeing some big bucks.
Only kind of cop who ever bothered me was a deputy sheriff one night years ago.I had been hunting within walking distance of where I lived. On my way home instead of walking though the thick woods I was hunting it I walked the road home. was maybe 100 years if that far from my driveway when he passed me turned around and came back and stopped me.After he checked my gun and license he got out his ticket book for what I have no idea since he never said a word.About that time the sheriff his boss pulled up and asked what was going on.They talked for a couple minutes I heard his boss tell him was no law being broke so no ticket writing could be done. All he said to me was merry Christmas and he hoped to see me in churchg more with my wife. They went to same church. Was actually early Christmas morning when it happened. That is the only two times I've ever talked to a cop while doing something hunting related.

Haven't been pulled over yet this year. But I did have a state trooper run my license plate last saturday night. Truck was parked on the side of a gravel road.

We just got a new game warden in our County. It is his first county so I invited him to our club so that we could talk to him. He assured us that he worked for the hunters, he is a hunter himself and wants to learn more about coon hunting. Hopefully, we will be able to work with him to have a good understanding in the years to come.

Well

the wardens here do nothing but harrass the hunters in our area and are doing a good job of making many enemies out of the local hunters who are law biding citizens. If your not doing what they think you are they look for and call each other to see what they can write you up for,and gray areas in the regulations are their favorite.

I was always told game wardens have more authority then the state police and a little less then the u.s. marshalls. If that is the case I'd say they can go pretty much where they please to do their job.

Gees i need to move to some of these states where game wardens have no rights. Here in iowa they don't need a warrant or anything thing to enter anything. Being that i was on the sheriff reserves for several years i know that here a game warden has more authority than i did and thats fine by me i'd be glad to see them every night. At least i know their doing their job and my tax dollars aren't going to some lazy person. People got to remember they have a job to do and if your not breaking the law then amuse them for the 10 minutes it may take and you'll be on with your business. Around here they don't stop me or ask me anymore cuz they know i'm legal and i have permission. It's the new ones that come in and may check me then when they know me they don't bother me anymore.

I envy you guys that have good wardens. Around here they seem to always find a way to ticket you for something. seems like they figure they have to generate enough money to cover their pay. Had a buddy get ticketed a week ago sittin in his treestand because he didnt have a pen with him. He was only 50 yards from his truck on his own land, but the warden said without a pen in his pocket he couldnt comply with the law about immediatly filling out his tag IF he shot a deer. Cost him 150 dollars CRAZY.
