I wouuld like some peoples input as to why you hunt the specific breed that you do.
Thanks
I started off hunting with Blueticks since thats what my father hunts, they tree coons in the style I like it done. Besides I like being a little different, there is only 3 of us who regularly comp hunt that hunt blues.

Hunt walkers because it's easier to find a good one around the house. EVERYBODY hunts them so there is more to choose from when you get ready to buy. Hunt B&T's because I just like them.

Walkers and Plotts are the most common registered breeds here in CA. I wanted something different so I started out with Blueticks and Redbones. After over 10 years of trying to find that "do it all" Redbone I gave up and just have Blueticks now (and beagles).
Along the way I've also had a few English, some B&Ts, and a Leopard before they were a UKC breed. I'm not color blind by any means, but the Blueticks have suited me best so far.
Tried a couple years ago to get another English, but no breeders wanted to sell me the type of pup I was looking to buy. Getting too old to commit to a new breed so I guess I'll just keep on with the blue dogs!

I tried one redbone in 1966 but I figured him out when he treed on dead pine with no limbs.
I tried on bluetick in 1966 but he decided to go back home between the yellow lines on a busy highway. Found eternal home.
Been Walkers for forty years. Had mostly good ones and some real good ones. They're about like a lab. Gona do what they're gonna do. Little training, comes natural, but like a lab, you got to own one to tell any difference in them. Almost like clones.
Been wondering for 20 years how come my walkers will get treed in 5 minutes but hardly ever strike closer than a quarter mile and maybe only one track per year comes back in my direction.
Tried Leopard hounds for last three years. Like what I see so far. Will take the first track they come to, hot or cold, and accurate, good natured fun dogs.
I've owned, raised and/or trained about 40 walkers but only two leopards to compare. So far so good.
BLACK N TANS is what my family has hunted for years. ive hunted all breeds and like a good black dog. and not to mention they are the best lookin breed lol.

ENGLISH
I hunt english cause I always wanted a redtick as a kid so when I bought my first coondog, I bought a redtick. Actually like blue english better now, but have also liked being one of the few people that I know around me that hunts english. Im not color blind, I like coondogs that doesnt have a color attached to it just a definition. English is all I have ever hunted and they seem to suit me so until they dont anymore thats probably all I will hunt.

English! Because they do the job I ask of them and I like all the pretty colors you can have in the breed and it is still an English.

hunt walkers because they are overall better suited to competition hunting. they are also easier to find around my area.

What I've really got is something that in my opinion is ready to start outta the box. I'm not colored blind, but I know what works best for me.
blues
I have owned and hunted Walkers, Plotts, English, and Blues. The first real good dog I ever hunted with was a blue. That old dog set the bar pretty high I'm still looking for one just like him. Now all I own is Blues and I see no reason to change.
