Ukc !!!

what are we gonna do about the performance program dwindling away? by the end of the year a point will be below $100! got any ideas or anything planned?

Posted by GA DAWG on 06-12-2009 10:27 PM:

Myself,I saw this coming ..The thing they could do is start a new pup program and put a age cap on dogs that can earn points..3 years old and your out. Thats just what I think anyhow..They could also make it cost more and then points would be worth more..All its gonna do from here on out unless something changes in get less..

I agree put age limit and 3 sounds fair also agree raise the fee to $200 on the stud at the first of the year $50 to reg a litter $50 to per reg a pup i dont have alot of money but that does not sound to bad to me i think it would help just an opinion and i am sure there is a better way but thats my thoughts

with the economy the way it is, you would lose most of the small people who scratch to get the money now. if that is what it takes to get the ones out that can't afford it than they need to do it. jmo.

I don't think an age limit is very fair. Not everyone likes to hunt a 10 month old pup in the hunts.

What percentage of pups that are performanced actually earn points? How many are not performanced because they will not compete? This is a good program,BUT, If you are doing it for the money and not for the sport, buy Lotto tickets. Yes it is a way to recoop some of your money and make a little. The other *KC has an age cutoff and dogs are IMO pushed to young and given up on after they reach the cutoff age. I grant you some of them go on to make nice hounds, while more are ruined on the way. UKC has made a competative move with the perfomance program against *KC and it may have worked too well. Have any of you been interested in buying a non-performance pup lately? Would you breed that nice female to a non-performance sire? Does the program need a little help, yep, do I have an answer,NO. I do believe it is the best program out there for houndsmen. Do not let the money ruin this sport as it has many others.

i think the economy has forced some guys to sell out completely and some im bettin are stayin in the game because of the performance program,if it goes to nothin, more will give it up!! im sure nobody hunts for money, but take away any incentive for the nite hunter and see how many guys hunt in the hunts. ive been workin on a young performanced male dog that is about ready for the hunts and if it wasnt for the performance part of it i would never go to a hunt and woulda quit coonhuntin altogether earlier this year when my work got slow.

Posted by jking on 06-13-2009 03:40 AM:

Could they possibly raise the nite hunt entry fee for performance dogs, and put the extra money into the performance program? If they aren't eligable to earn points they don't have to pay more. Just shooting an idea out.

i agree that something should be done, however this isnt the sport for the average man to make money. i will hunt the hunts regardless of the point value though.

I say leave it as it is...Its hard enough to get a new dog reg in 3 Kc's and get all the Perf Programs paid up now. And nite hunts need to stay the same,,Gas to get their ,entry fees ,,,I'm stretched far enough as it is.

I`m a pleasure hunter...But once in a while i will hunt a $$...Hunt...Coon Hunting has gotten way out of hand...It`s not a gentelmens sport...It`s went to a "WHO has the fattest Wallet sport...I don`t have sponsors...nor do I need any...EVERY PUP I raise I give to kids @ hunts...Yeah..I could sell sell sell...BUT WHY.I can remember hunting with the `ol timmers when coon hunten was about HUNTEN....Not how fancy your lite is or how you track your dog...The kids today hunt the way their taught...

Leave it alone. It is what it is. I don't think UKC ever intended for it to be a moneymaker for anyone. It is a rewards program like the old Top Value Stamps we collected years ago. You get a bunch over the year and turn them in for some little thing you never really needed anyway.

i think they should have a litter fee for the studs, the studs that breed 100 females should pay more then someone who just raises 1 litter sired by there male...after all there getting a bigger return when they got 800 pups out competeing for performance points...

I don't think the "Your dog has more pups competing and it isn't fair!!" mentaility is the solution.

well a breeder that raises 6 litters a yr pays out more than a guy that raises 1 litter, so whats the difference!!

Thats my point............why should stud owners be penalized for having more dogs competing because someone is whining that that they have less competing out of their stud so they will get paid less.

Posted by Dan Dogs on 06-13-2009 06:18 PM:

look at it this way, if i'm paying 27% income tax on $50,000 and your paying 27% on $110,000 nobody is getting penalized..if your paying 35% on $110,000 then your being penalized for making more...

they should do away with the whole thing! thats what set UKC apart from the other one. you did it for pride to showcase top notch dogs. money is the root of all evil and its starting to kill this sport too. thats a shame because this is such a wonderful sport that has roots from generation to generation. UKC had it right everyone wants to be a grand night champ noone cares if your a gold or silver or whatever!!!!! take the money out of it

thats another thing i disagree with, whys everyone in a big hurry to grand their dog out in ukc and then theres very few hunts to put them in. i think ukc should have titles such as silver ch and gold ch. a buddy of mine had a walker dog that was a little older than 2 and granded him, then nowhere to go unless you hit an rqe or a big one like autumn oaks.
