Hello Everyone,

I would like as many responses as possible to this post to let me know whether or not every one thinks this is a good idea.

There are many threats to our great coon hunting fraternity. One of the problems that we face is that government officials know little about us. It is one thing to talk to them, but it is another to provide them with real life numbers that reflect our contributions to our sports, communities, and our families.

I am willing to organize, conduct, and analyze a three-fold survey. The goal of the survey will be to look at the economic impact of our sport, total number of man hours training, working, caring for our hounds and running our hounds, and the impact that coon hunting has on our families.

The only way this will work is if we can get everybody, local club members, pleasure hunters, and every one you know to respond. The greater numbers we have the greater importance government officials will place on our numbers.

So, before I spend the money and take my wife out for an expensive dinner to break the news to her that I have yet another project, do you feel this is important enough that you would respond to either an electronic or printed questionaire?

Thank you for taking the time to consider this issue.

Larry,

You can go to the Appalachian Houndsmen Association Web Site
and click on the Economic Impact Study tab and the top of the page...

www.apphoundsmenassoc.com

We are in the process of doing an economic impact study and we are gathering information through the end of June. We have gotten responses back from all over the country and will be working on the results as soon as we can after the end of June.

LMBEDDINGFIELD,

Yes, it would be similiar to our questionaire. Except I would avoid questions such as how many dogs do you own. Questions would be design so as not to be used against us.

I also would try to get the results published. I would share the results with any hound groups. I would plan on analyzing the data in a couple of different fashions. One analysis would be by state by state and the other would be collectively.

One of the most important numbers to biologist regarding recreational pursuits is the number of man hours involved. I would be happy to take any recommendations or help.

I have to admit though I am already disappointed in how many responses/views.

Here is an example of how such information can be used. Right now in the state of Michigan we have quiet time were we can not run our hounds.

The biggest complaint to this issue is by the Law Enforcement Divison. If we could show the number of man hours spent coon hunting in the state versus the number of complaints, we could quantitatively demonstrate just how few complaints there really are.

It is one thing to keep asking for the same thing without providing adequate information regarding the issue, and it is a completely different ball of wax when we can intelligently ask while providing good and appropriate information in the process.

The more Study's the Better !! When you can add More Ref. to a cause the More Attention and Credbility you recieve. But I must say that I had'nt Seen the Appalachian Houndsmen Association Study.. I guess I missed it Somewhere..

Please don't exclude the Big game Houndsmen !! Check with the Hound hunting Outfitters .. They support their Families with their Hounds along with their local economys.

Their are Ref. avab. from the Virginia State Current Hound Study ..

Here is a Link to Va. States Study http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/news/release.asp?id=173

Larry,

we have the intentions of making all our finds available to the people who need them... we are going to have them on a state by state basis and do them regional as well....

Good Luck to you....

We had a copy of our study included in the spring NPHA news letter, a copy was in the Bloodlines March or April issue and we had good responses from both...

We placed copies at the breed associations booths and other association booths at Winter Classic and that was a great success...

Not sure as to how many we have received back at this point put I know it is alot...

Good luck to you and Yes I will answer your questions also.

We as organizations formed to protect our houndsmen heritage and educate those who do not know what we do and how we do it can never have to much information to support our claims as to what we do with our time and monies and our hounds....
