mean dog problem

I don't know what to do about my neighbor's dogs. They are very aggressive, and get loose often. I have been chased by them which resulted in a board across ones head, my kids have been chased by them. I live in city limits, and have contacted the police and animal control officer. Turns out they got the dogs from the pound, and when the people couldn't keep the dogs penned up the pound actually bought them a new chainlink pen a few years ago and also a new one last week. I don't know what to do about them. I would just shoot them next time they got on my property, but police told me I would be charged with discharging a firearm in public. What would you do? I need help and don't want to get a fine or go to jail myself.

take to court for dogs running at large $100 fine and tell them there dogs are a threight to your family and kids. if any thing isn't done then like he said s,s,s, and smile.

if them dogs assult you on your land or even if your walking down a street and they assult you you have a right to defend yourself and if it takes a bullet to do it they cant charge you with shooting a gun in limits its self defence

They almost always get loose during a thunderstorm. My grandpa told me next time they get loose wait for thunder and then make some of my own. They are chow's sp? they are pretty big dogs. I just don't think it's right the unfair treatment our animal control officer/shelter is giving them. I've heard lots of ideas such as the nasty green koolaid, sponges soaked in grease, and d'con steaks, but I would like it taken care of civilized. I'm going to talk to the prosecutor and let the mayor know I don't think our shelter manager is spending funds appropriatly. Any other ideas I might try?

if i was in your shoes i would hire a attorny an let them fight it out in court, its the best way since you live in town. jmo

Get a video of the dogs on your property. Try to get it when the dogs are acting aggressive. Then take it to the Prosecutor. If that don't work , take it to the press. Also threaten with a lawsuit.

I would get charged for Fireing a gun in City Limits tell them the dogs was a threat to your kids an you that they chased you so you took care of the Problem on YOUR PROPERTY!! a person has the right to protect his Family on his property.

Your right for trying the legal way just step up the calls to the cops. They'll get tired of comming out and do something about the dogs in the mean time get some bear or pepper spray and let them have it if they so much as take a step towards you. The video is a good idea too.

If you can get your hands on them, take them to the pound, or if you can get them contained in a pen or in your backyard, call the pound to come pick them up.
If they are problem dogs, either the owner won't pay to bail them out the first time, or they'll just get tired of paying the fee to bail them out.
I would also call both animal control and the police each and every time you see them off the owner's property, and keep a log of dates and times. If animal control still won't do anything, call your city council - generally they oversee animal control, and let them know that your kids have been repeatedly threatened by these dogs, animal control is not doing their job, and you want something done before a child is maimed......

good luck. we had the same problem. they chased my mom 2 or 3 times and killed her little house dog. animal control never did a thing

my neighbor has a bulldog and it chases me when i am on the four-wheeler if it is loose... well more than once it chased me and i had my coondogs with me so i just ran it over. aint hurt it one bit... came after me on the hill one day though... i got me a good size club and proceeded to a beatin on it... i didnt have my gun that day.

You guys advising the use of poison are not using good sense. Poison is an indiscriminent killer. Sombody's good coon dog or beloved family pet could find it before these aggressive dogs do....not a good idea.

living in the country as i do, the 3's would be the only solution to the problem.
