Purina Hi-Pro No More!!!

Well,
It's official, I just received a confirmation e-mail that Purina is discontinuing Hi-Pro. I had heard rumors but hoped they weren't true. For $21.00 it was a good buy.

Try KENT ACTIVE DOG I think you will like it. Active dog is $19 for a 40 lbs bag at my local feed store.

my hounds will lick the bowl clean with dog chow but just will not eat hi pro. sam's must have stopped carrying dog chow but they seem to have a lot of the hi pro.

Posted by jackback on 02-26-2009 02:20 AM:

I just checked my email and received the same email.

I always had good luck with it, but the price was starting to get out of hand. Over the last year or so it has gone up from $18 to $26 a bag.

I find it hard to believe that they are quitting Hi Pro. I thought it was good feed.

Who knows what I'll feed now...

I had fed Hipro for the past couple years, so recently due to Purina running the price to 27 dollars a bag, I did a little research and I am now feeding Advance Complete. 24/20 for $14 a bag for 40#. This feed is milled by Southern States. So far, so good!!!

Posted by Barry Hall on 02-26-2009 05:23 PM:

I have fed hi-pro for 14 yrs. went last week and gave 30.69 for50 pound came and called they said they have quit making it and it is the stores price gouging the last of it.

Posted by chuck barham on 03-03-2009 11:45 PM:

Just checked at Sam's and they said they are not going to carry Hi-pro "or" Dog Chow.
Has anyone heard Black Gold is marketing and cheaper 24/20 feed , if so what is it called?

Posted by Double M Kennels on 03-04-2009 12:10 AM:

i like PRIDE kennal pak it's 22/16 and $18.50 a 50# my dogs love it better then blackgold they keep their weight up when its cold and have been ran 4 nights a week.. HI-PRO was good but so is PRIDE kennal pak

Purina

After years with Purina - HiPro, ONE and Puppy Chow - they pulled the last straw. The price has gotten in the clouds, and quality sure seems to be questionable on some bags. Then they drop the main food a hunter can afford. I AM DONE. Yes I did send them an email return, but I am sure they will file it (13).

I have tried several other foods over the years. The ones I like are just not close to me. That being Pride and the other Joy. Nobody close to me carries it. So I am trying Diamand in the green bag. Dogs seem to like eating it better than anything else. We will see how they look in a month or two.

Consumer Affairs Dept....www.purina.com. or 1-800-778-7462..
..Tell them your dislike about Hi pro discontinuance and the price going up on Dog Chow with the less #'s per. bag...Maybe we can get the full 50lb. bag back or something in our favor.....

I did the same thing.
I feed Dog Chow some but I prefer Hi-Pro.
Dog Chow's first ingredient was corn meal which is pretty much a waste. I want Hi-Pro back. Either that or they need to drop the price on ONE or Pro Plan.JMO

Hard to find a good feed made by Purina in 50# bags anymore for the ones with several dogs.

Posted by Todd Humphrey on 03-04-2009 02:22 AM:

I heard that Sam's and wal-mart are not carrying any Purina products because of the price increases Purina put in place. Was told by one local Sam's store that if Purina lowered the prices they would start carrying Purina products again.
They had no Purina in the store at all.

Anyone else heard this?

I use to feed Purina Hi-Pro and then I noticed my dog was keeping any weight on her when I hunted her hard. And I couldn't afford to feed the Pro Plan Performance like I wanted. So I switched to Black Gold and I have been happy ever since.

I never understood by Purina had so many different feeds.

Dog Chow
Hi-Pro
Purina One
Pro Plan

I'm glad that got rid of it. Maybe they will get rid of the Purina One and Dog Chow. Then the can put the efforts into Pro Plan. Offer more pounds at an affordable price. JMO.

Good luck to those looking for a replacement feed.

I went to Sam's today and they told me the same thing. I went to PetSmart and bought two 34# bags of puppy chow @ 24.99 each, a 44# dog chow @ 23.99, a 50# Hi-Pro @ 27.99 and a 35# ProPlan shredded blend @32.99 (would have been 36.99 but I got the pet perks $4 discount)

I was buyin 50# Hipro @ 21.64 and 50-55#Dog Chow @ 21.50
