just hoping friends and their hounds are okay. we have schools closed all around northern illinois. and our coldest temperatures are going to plummet even more. wind chills to -30 to -40 below due tonight and into tomorrow. i'd advise moving hounds into sheltered area for a few days. or possibly put two in one house. better to be safe than sorry. keep warm....

i don't know if i'll last up here till hubby retires...LOL!!! BBRRRRRRR!!! where is global warming now???? LOL!!!

new years eve

i took this here at the lake on new year's eve day. couldn't believe the geese were even flying around. since last thursady evening...we have been hit really continuously. some of the worst i've seen up here in a while. going to be alot of flooding this spring thaw.

with the economy is such bad shape, the winter heating costs are just going to add to the misery. i know people are selling hounds and puppies because the weather isn't helping them any to keep them hunted or trained. you start to worry about the wildlife in such weather conditions. even my regular ms bugs bunny hasn't been around to eat my bushes. LOL!

and that same lake is covered in ice n snow and nothing moving around there now.

ya thursday nite it is supposed to be like... 2 above...w/o wind chill. if i catch a critter that thing will be froze b4 5:30 that mornin!!!!!

this winter....

i am the one using the snowthrower. LOL! yes. i can be quite adapatable when need be. but you know? the sofa has a better view than the one from the porch! LOL! we now have more than 6"s to 8"s from last friday. and more on the way. christmas has passed..."the coming of the three kings" is gone...this can now stop. i need to take a photo, so when i get a weak moment and "decide" to stay in illinois, it will offer a brain fart and pass away....LOL!

this still don't compare to feb of 80 or 81, we had -30 with wind chills reported of 70-90 below..that was a very ruff week for farming..i stayed up off/on for 36 hrs, slept in the barn on straw bales and poured hot water over the drinking cups every hr so the cows could drink and keep the valves from freezing up...i would have to stand in the milk house for 20 min just to get my ski mask thawed out enuff to pull it off my head!!!oh yes, the good old days!!! the cow manure froze to the barn cleaner paddles before it made it's way up the chute to the manure spreader...

that is cold!! LOL!!! farmers are the folk that deal with weather conditions 365 days a year. it's part of their life. we city folks just warm up n go.....had a father-in-law that used a team of belgians years ago. he said "they start on a cold day." LOL!

Its -30 below here right now don't know what it is with the wind chill haven't went out side to check.

Yep Laura sure is cold, that little house on the Irish R.D. has a wind chill about minus 20 right now.

Black ice on the roads here has been wicked in the mornings. Schools are two hours late tomorrow. -20 right now but supposed to go to -30 like Chris said. Wind is sure moving the snow out in the open country. We'll stay under blankets tonight and listen to the house framing pop and clunk with the cold.

18 below here in no. iowa, and 25 mph winds. also had snow from a inch to a half foot the last five days in a row. dogs are safe and sound and warm. starin at one of them as i type.lol. funny thing is i manage a 6000 sow unit and have been called in three times already due to a temp. alarm,dogs semmed just fine when i got home. ole rebel is sure lovin the treats.lol. stay safe yall.Travis

Having a heat wave a tropical heat wave. That is the song my dogs are singing in the barn tonight. Set the thermostat on 45 for them. I must be getting soft.

that "tropical heat wave"....

tune use to be sung by marilyn monroe. and later was opening tune for "grumpy old men". LOL! my lil boston terrier is now chattering when she goes outdoors. and scurries in real fast. so fast she is a blur as she runs by. LOL!

john duemmer...we could sure tell some tales of ol "irish road". you still able to hunt around there? we use to like going to "hoche's place". is the peach orchard still across the way as well? i know there were grape vineyards. learned my lesson real fast about them. i think they have built in ex-lax power! LOL!

western new york, lockport, wilson, newfane, have always had snow n cold. ever see or hear anything on joe moll, black & tan fella? how about dave's ol buddy roger "trader" taylor? LOL!

And here I am bitching about it being 5 degrees outside.. Sure feels colder than that with the wind chills!!! LOL
