where o where have all the good track dogs gone???

Where are all the really great track dogs? I am talking about the ones that can run a coon(the right way)and not take all night to do it, the ones that can run a coon on dry dusty ground or a frozen swamp and put a coon in a tree and not take all night doing it. The ones that can run a coon and tree it in the river bottoms with two and three foot of water and have a coon in a tree at the end AND NOT TAKE ALL NIGHT DOING IT... Just curious?

There are some still around, I have proof.

A coon hound has a lot of traits that must ballance, you need enough track and enough tree. To much of either and you start loosing out on what it takes to be a Great one.

She is in my back yard ! She is a real good track dog in the hills, river bottoms ect. She can really push a coon and get it treed, i wish she had just a little more tree i her but not to the point where is tree happy ! Over all i have no complaints on her. Nt. Ch. Uchtmans Blue Honey

Well, he is past his time, but the ole man is still out back.lol

I am hoping this pup will take over where the ole man left off. I seen her run a rabbit track in the back yard that was several hours old when it was drier than a bone and in the hottest part of the day last summer.

The last 10 or 15 years everybody decided it was more important to have a treefighting, 150 bark per minute dog that would tree quick than to have a real coondog. That's what happened.

Jason,

I bet ya you can't come up with 12 nice post by Christmas. Something like compliment someone or tell how someone impressed ya or the like. The catch is every time you post a negative post that counts against your total.

How about it? Are ya game?

try one of rock river walkers real coondogs

Posted by elvis on 12-09-2008 07:57 PM:

Janice Joplin won a world hunt by being a good track dog.
Good track dogs are accurate first tree dogs in company.

very few dogs today are good track dogs that can compete on the same coon with one that is.
A dog that blows thru the country getting away from the other dogs and trees easy coon, seems to be what most people like nowadays. Now add to that one that runs junk or just babbles as he is going thru the country looking for an easy one, and you have one that many refer to as an awesome track dog.lol.
They win, they are easy to call, people breed to them, and in my opinion are ruining any hopes of a track dog revival.

now i have to disagree with that. For the most part, most coonhunters I know aren't looking for a track dog. They want a tree dog. A tree dog with all the bells and whistles. A coondog isn't what most folks are after nowdays.

That could be but not me or most of my friends we want track dogs and tree dogs that tree coon in any kind of weather with two looking down and like tremor says not take all day doing it . I think a lot of guys think a track dog is a dog that trials around all night then come up with a coon Not me. A track dog to me is a dog that runs of the track runs a track in any kind weather runs a cold track a hot track the same and move out with them a tree Mr. coon and like tremor says don't take all day doing it.

I have a dog that can track a week old track and run it right. Cold nosed but can still push it as fast as any other dog Ive hunted with. There is one little secret about how to find a good track dog......................GET A BLUETICK.................
