Thank the lord. I hope they just keep dropping. Also are they prime yet up north?

Posted by JefferyAntes on 10-26-2008 03:43 PM:

Don't get me wrong I don't them the sky rocket or get way high but I put alot work into puting a few hides in the freezer it just be nice to make some Christmas money, but its also inportant to see a dog taking pride in you puttin coon in the truck, but hay the dog is the most inportant part, but it is called coon HUNTING not chasing a coon up a tree and walking away.
There looking pretty good I've got a few really really nice ones north of here.

Predictions in FFG have always been misleading, the high prices reflect the big coon from the upper Mississippi river valley...Smaller coon always bring far less.

No, and they wont be for another month, If you wait till they are prime around here you will be able to carry your yearly take to the buyer in one hand.

Jeffery it is nice to make a coon dog. It is good to make some money for XMas too. Never going to get rich so if you want to make more money buy some nice bred pups and get them going and sell. Thats where you will make more money.

On another note you mentioned pulling dogs off trees without knocking the coon out to them. If there real coon dogs they don't need every coon shot out.

I know several I hunt with barely see a coon in off season. There still coon dogs too when season hits.

Oh don't get me wrong I too believe a dog don't have to chew coon to be a coon dog but to me if you don't take a few its not hunting that's my opion nothing more or nothing less, I've been taking just about every other tree pending if you can see the whole coon i try to leave the smaller ones I'm setting on about 100 hides and maybe 5 to 8 little ones but I'm just has proud of all of them because this red dog has been under all of them,

Amen to that! I understand that we need to keep them thinned so they don't get sick and all but high prices will get all the shinners out there too. Snares are a problem too if there not the right kind. Hound killers.

last year prices were higher than normal and we never had all them shiners every one is worried about. there will be plenty for everyone. i could kill 10 a night and not put a dent in the populationshere. as long as no one screws with my hounds while im out there i dont care. i have too many other things to worry about than other hunters having fun at night like i im.

You wouldnt think this way if you didnt live in rich coon populations. You would have to hunt in other states to understand. To hunt is not always to kill. Ole man told me once "your not a coonhunter till you can leave them in the tree". I understand where your coming from though, id make a little money off a few hides also if I had coon like MI does. Good hunting

i ain't never hunted up there but i couldn't imagine 200 hunters hunting in one area killing 10 coons a nite a piece doesn't hurt the population.

shoot with that kinda coon population my chow and rat terrier could tree coons.
