-- How do I fix this...? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=231937)
How do I fix this...?
I have a 3 month old female pup. She doesn't get along with her dog house! I have wood chips in there and she will not stop peeing in the dog house. Yesterday I even found a turd!
I've never had this problem and I am lost as to how to fix it. I have had her for almost a month now. She does poop outside of her dog box, but I have not seen evidence of pee in the kennel. She does poop and pee when she is out in the yard.
Any suggestions?
Change what you got in her house. Put new bedding in there. By the way, what breed and bloodline might i ask? I've never saw that before either. A puppy that wants to live in $#$%.

I have changed the wood chips in there every couple of days. That was the first thing that I thought of...

I hate it that the puppy is doing this but it's kinda funny. LOL Reminds me of this puppy i used to have. LOL I had a puppy about 2 years ago that was obsessed with cat poo. He would literally go HUNTING down in the woods behind the house and find him some cat poo poo and eat it. I don't know why but he'd eat that stuff all the time. Crazy.

You're right, it WAS funny 3 weeks ago. Now I am lost for words. I try to take the upmost care of my hounds and then they treat me like this...LOL!! I bet if I tied her out to an old oak tree and gave her an old cardboard box for as a house she might be grateful...!!
try feeding her in her house

Bedding....
...move the peed on bedding outside the house to where you want her to pee and leave the house empty. She may not want to pee in an area that will splatter her legs.... And I agree on feeding her IN the house and wait on the self feeder. Our BnT (pet) came here with "issues" and used to go potty in his crate. We fed him in there etc and he did eventually stop. He is about 99% housebroken... which we never expected... so your female might be fixable.
Good luck, Heather

Can you move her house to a different location in the pen??? I wonder if you clean out her dog house good with bleach to get rid of the smell of urine and leave it empty with no bedding in it and move it to a different place in her kennel.. It would be worth a try if you can move the house. If not wonder if not putting any bedding in there would do something..
That would get real old real fast cleaning that up. LOL

Urine odor..
...another tip... at Petsmart.... or some such supply store... you can buy a gallon of(expensive but worth it if you NEED the extra tool) Urine neutralizer. I forget what brand we get but I need stock in the CO. Having fostered and adopted ADULT coonhounds... most of whom are NOT housebroken when they hunt... it REALLY helps. We pour the stff into carpet, dog house whatever and let it do it's "Magic" and it removes the temptation to pee in the same area, cover up another dogs odor etc.... SO... when you remove the bedding for the time being you also remove the odor.
I do hope it works cause I know this can be a real irritating issue. It is a hard habit to break sometimes. WE assume they would WANT to go potty OUTSIDE the house... for their own comfort... sometimes they just dont act human enough
Again, Good luck..... Heather

Well, here is where I am in fixing this problem.
I have taken all of the wood shavings out of the dog house. I had been changing it every 2 or 3 days because of her problem, but I took it all out today and didnt put any back in.
Heather, I took your advice and picked up some urine neutralizer and sprayed it in the dog house. Hopefully this will do away with the smell.
I know that several of you have recommended taking her off the self feeder, and I still might, but right now I would prefer her to stay on it. I think it is best for a pup to have food available to them at all times when they are this young... I will check in the morning to see how the night went.
Thanks for all of the advice. I'll keep you posted and if this doesnt work, you all will have to come up with new ideas!!
PARTITION HER HOUSE OFF SO IT IS ONLY LARGE ENOUGH TO STRETCH OUT IN AND FEED HER IN THERE.SHE MAY STOP.

how do you feed your dogs with the self feeder? i personally don't like them because if you feed them in a bowl everyday you will know what your dog is eatin and it also gives you a chance to put your hands on your pup everyday. jmo

walk over poor a 10lb bag in it.duh
try a smaller box or just let the puppy run loose
in the backyard
Yall are making this way harder than it has to be. Feed her where she sleeps. IT WORKS! Its also easy and dont cost nothin.

I garantee you I put my hands on her enough everyday. The self feeder is not to keep me from feeding her... thanks though.
This morning there was no pee or poop in the dog box.
