Middle of lower Michigan, it mite not be the best but I'm in montcalm county and when the lights around here they rap and pillage any food source out there, thers only a hand full of hunters around here if theres that many I would be suprised but theres corn acorns creek bottoms swamps you name its here and they've become like some infestation of bugs or something.Lets put it this way I got a 9 month pup and hes okay but not great I was last night for 1 1/2 hrs and he treed five different times and only one was a kitten

Depends

If your talking just treeing a lot of easy coons, than I would say Michigan and North. Ind. Those are my two favorite places when I'm getting a nice pup started.

I think Ky is one of the best places as far as training dogs in different types of terrain. The coons are not as thick as michigan but not as thin as say Ga. The walking in Ky can vary from easy to very hard. lol.

But, if i had a choice to hunt all the time it would be Michigan. I love all the coons and the flat land. TIm

ohio coon

We have alot here in Ohio for sure. I've box trapped over 90 in the last 2 monthes at a few local farms. I turn them all loose right here in my woods for the hunts. Every now and then one will fall out on the dogs though. LOL!!!

If you factor in weather then you would factor out Michigan and the rest of the northern midwest cause you get shut down for a few months per year. Add to that our no-training season and you can't run a dog for as many as five months out of the year. I think Wick had a chapter on this in his first book. I always thought it was interesting and made good sense. When he asked himself the same question, he settled on Missouri. Decent coon poppulation and moderate temps year around.
