cummins

stick with the 07 5.9 cummins. all the emmisons wont let you do much on the 6.7 or the ckeck engine light comes on. i have a 07 5.9 with the bully dog triple dog and black smoke is not a problem.

whatever you do dont buy one unless you wanna buy mine. Its in the shop every week for check engine problems and it gets 12-13 mpg. Definitely stick to a 5.9. I Would trade mine tomorrow for a 5.9 if I could find one to trade for.

I have an '07 Mega Cab with the 6.7 and a 6sp manual. I absolutely love mine. When I first bought it I was averaging between 18.6 mpg and 19.4 on the highway. After I leveled it and put 10 ply 35" Toyo MT's on it, it dropped me to an average between 15.7 and 16.8 on the highway. So far with the 6 spd I actually get better mileage in town than on the highway. At 70 mph I am running at 2150 rpm's in 6th gear. I had a '00 with the 5.9 and an auto and I consistently averaged 21.8 mpg on the highway but it was chipped for mileage. However there is no comparison in the power between the two. The 6.7 blows the 5.9 off the road loaded or unloaded. This is the experience I have had with both engines hope this helps.

I did everything but sign on the line to purchase a 2008 dodge 2500 w/6.7 last week. I spoke to alot of people about the 6.7. I received mixed reviews. Performance wise everyone was well pleased, but several had been back and forth to the shop because of this new emissions system. This seemed to be less of an issue in the 2008 models. I spoke to the dealer about this and he said they were anticipating a recall in the near future to correct the "filter" which keeps stopping up. They say you can not let this 6.7 sit and idle. Anyway for the price you have to pay, I decided to wait a few months and see how this works out.

There is a way to run the RPM's to about 1200-1400 RPM's at an IDLE.

To see if your Dodge has it

1. start your truck
2. turn the cruise control on
3. set cruise
4. hit the accell button on the cruise and if your has been turned on from the factory it should accelerate to a higher RPM while sitting there and this HELPS A TON keeping the filter from clogging.

If your doesnt work go to your dodge dealer and ask them to turn on your Idle up feature, This should NOT cost you a penny but it will save you dollars!!!!

Only on Deisels. Hope this helps.

I have an o7 2500 megacab and love it. I have had it in the shop several times for check engine light, but they have finally got it under control I think. No black smoke at all. Exaust pipe is as clean today after 40,000 miles as it was the day I bought it.
Fuel mileage sucks though. Pulling a 6x10 trailer it gets around 11-12 mpg. Without the trailer and cruiseing on highway at 70-75, it will get around 16-17.

I think that the new emission stuff is going to be a big problem with diesel engines of all makes and models. At work, they bought 2 new 08 Kenworths with Cat engines in them and they have the emission regualtors on them. Both trucks are identical and pull just about the same loads on them each day. Both now have around 8,000 miles on them and one has been in the shop atleast 6 times since Feb. for engine light problems. The other has had no problem at all.

Seems like it might be a crap shoot as to which one you get.

Definately not the cummins engine, but along the same lines.

But you would rather have a cummins which for the last 10 years has been owned by ford. Or you would rather have a duramax engine that was designed by toyota which has no diesel knowledge to their credit until the duramax.

Cummins is NOT owned by Ford. That is nothing more than a rumour.

Duramax, is not designed by Toyota either. It is a Isuzu engine.

Isuzu has been building diesel engines for MANY years and is used worldwide.

Cummins was owned by ford for ten years and then they sold it last year to someone. If toyota didnt design the duramax then why is the parts for it made by aisin which makes most of the toyota and chevy motor parts. Its a toyota owned company. My cousin designs all of their computer programs and robots. He works in both london, ky and the one in tennesee.

I've heard the emissions thing and the milage about the 6.7's. I'd really like to find me a 12 valve, but those are all 98.5's or older, and it is hard to find a real nice one around here, a 24 valve would be nice, but the tranny's arent the best if you build the HP up, but i'd like to find a common rail 5.9, i dont want a 4 door, but all the trucks at the dodge lots are either 4 door or single cab. wat happened to the just regular ext cab?

I've got a 06 Megacab with the 5.9 in it and haven't had an ounce of trouble out of it. It now has nearly 70k miles on it and about 55k of those have been with a trailer behind it ranging from 4,000lbs to 10,000lbs. The truck gets 13mpg with a trailer and 21-22mpg without (highway). I just towed my 10,000lbs boat back from lake erie the other day and averaged 13.8mpg. If you can find one of these trucks around the are defianely worth having. The megacab is awsome, there is more room in the back seats than there is in the front! Plus storage behind the back seats big enough to put a carry on suit case.

Dodge no longer makes the old style of extended cab trucks. they got rid of the 2 suicide doors on the back and went to two regular doors in the back. Its either 4 door or single cab the quad cab would be your extended cab model now

Duramax 6600, which is a result of a joint venture between Isuzu and the General Motors Corporation (forming DMAX Ltd.). We'll have all of the latest test reports and event coverage as that information becomes available for the LB7 / LLY / LBZ / LLM / LMM Duramax 6600 diesel engines, as well as Allison 1000 series 5-speed & 6-speed automatic transmissions.

Very reliable source
