i went with a couple guys last night and we didnt hit one track. but if we did i doubt i would have been able to hear the race anyways with all the wind. it was a waste of my time.
we have 7 inches of snow right now and it started to melt yesterday and then froze back up on the base of the trees so i think that has something to do with it.

Posted by bluehound on 12-18-2007 09:04 PM:

I took my hounds out Friday night on the ice. We had a snow storm come in over the weekend so I wanted to give them a little stretch session . I made two drops, had two tracks, two trees and two coons. I wanted to continue but the wind started picking up and the snow started flying. I thought if I dumped one more time.....well everyone knows how those last dumps can turn out? It is Tuesday afternoon, we still have a couple inches of snow on top of ice but I think I will turn the blue hounds loose tonight for a spin or two.

You would think that by now if the words "one more time" even crossed our minds, it would be out of the question! LOL, famous last words of a fool I guess .

We just got back in from taking ol Loose for a spin. Took a piss poor track a mile to a dozer pile, then put one on the outside. Called it a night.

Both nights last week we had snow or ice storms that idiot snuck out of the house and got treed on den trees in the strip pits west of town. Yours truly got to slide around those coal dumps to get him and get back out. The worse the weather is the more he seems to think he needs to be out in it.

You would think he would know what retired to the couch meens by now.

Cory Mailes, Tom Jones and I took a little hunt last evening. It was around 40 degrees at dark. It didn't take long for the frost to get thick. The hounds split treed with coon in both trees on the first dump. We saw three other coon walking in and out. Next dump treed a litter of 4 in a large oak but one hound had trailed on so we sent to him and treed a single. The last dump we treed a double and headed for home about 11:30.

Yes

Monday night I killed one, And last night we killed three. We only hunted till about 8:30 snow started getting crunchy and quit before it tore the dogs feet up. Cant injure the dog before the Grand American.

Sat. night

Saturday night we carried three dogs and had seven trees in three hours. Only one was a den, the rest we saw the coons. Tried to knock one out for the young ones to chew on, but of course the sucker fell next to my buddy's walker (who was the last to go in to tree with three blues....lol). Last night went for about two hours and treed three times with just the young dogs. Saw the meat in all of them. Got a big buddy hunt set for Friday night, hope to have a good time.

Tom should be up about 6:30. Tom hunts walker dogs and is a tough hunter. He has a couple young hounds that is getting lots of hunting. I enjoy hunting my dual gr. Rebel dog that should be getting better with age. He will be three this June 28th and the ol timers say they get better until 4 or 5 years of age. We have treed over 80 trees with coon in them since Nov. 14 and looked at 150+ all together. For the most part knocked out around 60. You knock out about 60 in 25 nights of hunting, your hound should know what they are looking for. I just started hunting a young female that I am looking at buying. The female is off Misty Blue Ray and Cory's Lil female. She has seen 5 coon and wil sure go hunting, run a track and a treedog. I will show her 30 or 40 coon and see how she develops. It's nice to have an option to buy one if it's good enough. If she's not, she will be worth lots more being hunted for a couple months.

Last Night

Cut Belle dog loose around 630... So quiet in the woods you could hear a pin drop. Sat there for about 15-20 minutes hearing nothing, then all of the sudden we heard "loud mouth" and she was treed a good ways behind us. Walked down there and she had 3 up in 3 different trees.

We usually don't shoot many out of that spot, but after all of the bad tracks and long nights the past couple of weeks, I had to give the old girl a nice reward for a job well done.

Hopefully this a turn for the good! Just shows a little persistency can go a long way!!!

Dumped in around 8:00 and got treed real quick by about 8:15. Went in and had one big sow, shot it out and cut the dogs back up the holler at about 8:40 and within ten minutes they were struck again. Treed by 9:00 and this time had to walk all the way to the top of the hill and they had another coon, left this one for later. Came home after the second one, my uncle and father in law had to work today.
