Fall/winter 2007 fur $?

Any predictions, facts, or figures on the upcoming season's prices for a coon hide here in the midwest?

I have heard $20.00 to $25.00 for put up fur. The local trapper heard that from a fur buyer in the area. Myself, I hope they do not get that high.

The fur buyer I talked to said the market got flooded and one country that normally buys alot did not. I heard rats-1.25 mink-3.00-6.00 beaver-10.00 raccoon-8.oo-10.00 that is region 11.

I hope this is misinformation. I could care less if they go high. The higher ther fur the more no goods you see in the woods.

Hides sold to fur buyer $ 10-$15 coon left in tree to run again PRICELESS!

me keeping up on the markets.coon fur is very high this year.do to a double market for hides.first is russia, china.and then the second is the fashion industry.mink isn't any good.grey fox is very high.but if the supply and demand are kept high and fur trappers and hunters don't over load the market.coon and all fur should make a good strong come back.

Posted by wells creek on 10-03-2007 12:52 AM:

Region 11 is southern Minnesota, western Wisconsin, northern Iowa. I was told that Russia, is broke and have not had a cold winter for 29 years. Italy was supposed to be the big buyer last year and that supposedly fell through. I agree with hunting for hides, it keeps the coon healthy, and if we don't harvest , the farmers up here poison them illegally!

i heard from a buyer around here 5-6 for average in the carcass. he just keeps track of numbers and pays across the board for some people when they want it. this is were the average comes from

No goods such as thieves, spot lighters and such.

Thanks for all the info guys, keep it coming!

I agree that hunting is a big part of game management, especially in the upper midwest for coon. I went out the other night hunting, hunted a ditch I had believed to have been overhunted the year before during fur season. However, we treed a nice sized coon and the trees had numerous eyes looking at us all coon, no smiley possum, it looked like the stars in the sky, only it was ring tailed bandits in the leaves.

By the way I have never gotten the price for a hide that Fur Fish & Game posts. I wish I could depend on those prices, it would make the gas money for hunting go a lot further!

20 and up for put up hides

The best source for prices I've found (other than a buyer) has always been the Trapper Predator Caller. I don't know who publishes it, but it is like the trappers Coonhound Bloodlines, lots of info including region by region price breakdowns.

Hey Bob, I could not agree more !!!!

They will never reach high prices again. They will soon be nuisance animals and an open season will happen.
