labotts,or Plabs

The definition of the word "brindle" A fine streaked or striped effect or pattern of black or tan hairs with hairs of a lighter or darker background color.Shades of colors accepted:yellow, red, tan, brown, black, grey and maltese brindle (slate grey, blue brindle) NO SOLID COLORS ACCEPTED! Now having said that, Since when have solid black dogs been accepted as a plott dog. In my opinion you should be able to stand back and look at a dog and just know it's a plott!! You should not have to look for the brindle. These black dogs look like labs, So now we have a new breed we will call Labotts or Plabs your choice.

You sure are starting off makeing friends on this broad.
Now I dont care for the all black plotts myself, just the same as I dont care for a half white plott, they dont fit the breed standard. I do feel like a change will be made soon on this subject.

With that being said, I dont like light colored blueticks. They look like an english. I dont like tri-color english. They look like a walker, but I will never pop off or throw off on anyones hound or any other breed. Im not saying thier color makes them anyless a coondog. Thats just childish crap. If I dont like what I see. I look away. I do not stand there in a judges role and put down someone elses dog or their choosen breed of dog.

Hell like I said I do not care for the all black plotts so I do not breed for them, but until the breed does something to stop it, well its to each their own. Until then just look away man; just look away.

I beleive what he's referring to is when the hound is on the bench. Not it's hunting ability. UKC has a breed standard and solid black isn't it...

Sorry didn't mean to offend anyone, but i'm not talking in the woods.I'm talking on the bench. There is a breed standard for that. That's what I meant.

i can understand the bench thing. The rules are the rules and if the dog does not meet breed standard it should not win, period. That is why the standard exists in the first place.

that being said, if you get a black plott that can't win on the bench, but will tree coons, call me..

Its hard to find a brown brindle or any other color brindled plott other than black. I want a brown brindle female to breed to my male and havent been able to find one. I bred my male to one of my black brindle females and almost all of the pups came out really dark brown or black. Black is a dominate gene is all I can figure, but I aint no scientist.

I wonder if those really, really dark Plotts will retrieve birds too? My cousin' Lab X B&T has more brindle than some of these Plotts I'm seeing on the bench. It's a shame....Plotts are known for their STRIPES!

Bootlegger, my stud is a nice brown brindle, he's here for your service!

The original dogs brought over from Germany that were used to create the plott breed were solid black.

Not many plotts being hauled by big game hunters are solid black if you look close. Are the show people breeding for black? Has it become the new fad?

I hope it's not a new fad, it's sub standard as far as being considered for placement on the Bench. Whether he hunts or not, if you're going to Bench show him, he should have some sort of brindle...according to UKC standards.

I've done extensive research on the breed and I've never heard of the original stock being black. I do know that there was at least one buckskin colored dog that made the journey. The type of Hound that the Plott has descened from can be colored anywhere from rich mahogany red to black. Also can be grey, brown, brownish red, reddish yellow, yellow ochre, dark grey, fawn to tan, blackish brown and all these colors can be lightly or heavily streaked with black brindle with or without a black face mask. Not saying your info is wrong, just wondering where you found it at.

I sure hope ppl aren't breeding for dark or black Plotts....

duh ,,lol

thats why the rules say they must have some brindle somewhere..
sounds like john got his clock cleaned by a black plott on the bench,,,,
as long as they have some brindle ,,
they can show and the losers can keep on crying till the cows come home ..

i perferr the black saddle/blanket and brown trim with black stripes as thats what the first plotts had more of,,
till they started breeding the redbone/yellow dogs into them so they could sell some pretty dogs,,,pretty is as pretty does..

i have a black plott with some brindle on his one side and he took best of show in the only show he was put in and they was people crying after that show too,,,,

theres a saying if you cant beat it ,just get you some of it too...

as bootlegger said,,the black is dominate,,you dont like the black ones then go bred some more redbone to the black ones untill you get all of them looking like brindle boxers,,i perfer the dark ones ,they arent as pretty ,so when they mess up its easer to shoot them like the old timers would do ,not sell them for show dogs only...can you hear them treeing on the wood,,upright not flattened,,,lol

whats that?? yes, the black plywood dogs can tree too,,.

John did not show that day. But some really beautiful hounds lost to a plott that, in alot of peoples opinion, could not see a color other than black on it.
