I have not been out yet, and when night falls this past week the hounds are not barking either!! so i guess they don't want to go either, tom./today thursday it is supposed to warm up a little bit and I am going to give it a try.

Creeks & Rivers are out all over the place,

so I went to the Kinkaid hills again last night. Made 2 den trees, & called it a night. Just hunted about an hour & a half because I got a late start. All I had on was a t-shirt, flannel shirt, a light Wick vest, & coaching shorts on under my Wick bibs & when I got back to the truck, I was soaking wet from SWEAT. Thats what being OLD & FAT will do for you in the hills. It wasn't bad at all, once you got into the woods & out of the BREEZE, didn't even need a pair of gloves on. All in all, it was a pretty nice night out. If I didn't have to get up & go to school today, I probably would have stayed longer. After 2 nights of temps in the teens, the little branch's going down to Kinkaid Lake, were still running fast enough that they hadn't started freezing yet.

The reason I'm up now is that I had a PEE CALL, & I put a couple of log's on the fire.

BAD WEATHER

I went to a hunt Friday in the pouring rain... treed two coon and den. Went this week one dump had a den. went last night, it was cold, cold.... had a bad old track up and down a creek and finally settled in on a big old cotton wood den tree that looked like a coon hotel. I'm tired of this winter.... I'm ready for spring turkey season!!!

Made 5 trees tonight,

first 2 were slick, next 2 were dens, & the last 1 had the meat in it. Quit, & had about a mile & a half walk back to the truck.

That WIND was raw when you got out in the open.

Went out tonight and had two chases. The wind was bitter and the hounds treed in a huge tree top pile. Found a bottom and top den entrance but Mr. Coon was deep inside. 2nd coon went way back in a drain tile. I guess thats why we call it huntin and not killin. My six month old pup was right in the fray though and jumped in the half frozen water with no hesitation trying to get in the drain tile.

we hunted last night Tue the 23rd it was snowing so bad we couldn't see unless we had the light on half power. We got 1 lay up coon I kind of felt sorry for him poor thing was covered in snow. Then we had a hot track that the dog lost about the third time she swam the creekso we called it a night .

Posted by coonsmen on 01-24-2007 08:28 PM:

we went last night also. snowing real bad. we hit one cold track. he ran it for ever and he ended up putting it up a old hollowed out tree. i could see his eyes in the hole so i was happy. only made one drop. i will be going back out tonight i hope but if not tomorrow for sure.

Went Sunday and treed two coons a den and a big tree that all we found was a great big nest in,possible slick, and went last night and treed two, two dens and a slick cedar tree. This isn't two bad for hunting three 17 month old dogs(all littermates) on ice and snow. Sunday we had Gr.Nite CH Perche Creek Blue Bo and our young dogs and he treed one of the single and the young dogs treed a single. It was snowing like crazy while we hunted last night but they did a real nice job. I will probably take a night or two off to heal up from falling on the Ice,I'm pretty sore today.lol
